Using PC as wireless network storage?

real

Recommended Posts

Ok, at home e've got 3 laptops and 1 PC, all connected to the 'net wirelessly. The PC and 2 laptops run Vista, 1 laptop is Win 7.

What i want to be able to do is use the PC (which has an external 1TB HDD) to back up stuff from the latops over the wireless connection.

Is this do-able? Is it easy? Where do I start?

This is very do-able.

If you right click on the 1TB drive in windows explorer and select share, it might be "Share with" then advanced sharing, this is how it looks on Win7, I can't remember how vista does it and eventually you will get to an option like "share this folder" and you're away.

There are other things to consider such as user accounts and permissions but without being a typical techie google is you friend with this as is trial and error.
