Yard Dog
Need to get rid of the old desktop PC. 6 year old Asus. And a decent Acer monitor. Nowt wrong with either, just got a laptop and need space. Bit worried about just taking it to the tip as heard stuff about people being able to access your banking details stored on the hard drive. Any ideas about disposing of it safely and in an environmentally friendly way? Edited March 29, 2013 by Yard Dog
opinions4u
I would download CCleaner wipe the drives OR Take the hard drive out, ten mins of a job, do that regularly you can even get a cheap cable and use it if ever needed as a backup drive. The tip on Arkwright Street are ok for disposal. IOMAH cable off ebay cheap but can be a good rescue cable as well. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bipra-SATA-Adapter-Power-Drive/dp/B001A5SK56/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1364555948&sr=8-2 Via the PlayerShare WebShop link of course! http://www.spendandraise.com/xtra/shop/goto.php?rb=3-1861
Guest Scratch2000uk
Why not donate it to a charity shop?
Guest Scratch2000uk
Because they arent allowed to take them as not PAT tested. Ah right, shame.
AndyGortonsMatches
To avoid any personal security risk to you, open it up, remove hard drive, close it up and take machine to tip. I have 4 or 5 hard drives in the attic stripped from old computers over 15 years. Will take a sledgehammer to them eventually or burn them in a chimnea. Yard Dog
I've ended up removing the hard drive. Took the rest of the PC to the tip along with a monitor that looked a lot posher and newer than the rest in there...made me think I was being a bit hasty tipping it but fast running out of space at mine with kid no.3 on't way...
