Port Vale FC: Directions, Beer & Food

Recommended Posts

NOTE: This information may be out of date in an ever-changing world.

Port Vale, Vale Park, Hamil Road, Burslem, Stoke On Trent, ST6 1AW

Up to 4,500 away supporters can be accommodated in the shallow-sloped all-seated Signal One Stand. It has four pillars to partially restrict the view but the acoustics are excellent. The facilities located on the concourse behind the stand are good. Although it’s well over five years since Latics played here, the stand to the right of the away fans is still not finished as a number of seating blocks are missing.

The electric scoreboard perched on the roof of this stand is not visible to away fans, so it looks as though the Vale fans in the Railway Stand are looking at the visitors during the half-time score display. The Vale fans also transfer from one side to another so that can be nearer the goalmouth that Port Vale are attacking.

NOTE: Cash is not accepted at the away turnstiles, so you have to buy a ticket (cash only) from the portakabin in the car park by the away end. If you wish to pay by credit or debit card, you will need to purchase tickets from the Main Ticket Office.

The pitch is one of the widest in the League, which should suit visiting teams using two wingers.

Disabled persons’ facilities:

16 accessible parking spaces are available to home and away supporters at the car park adjacent to the stand, but pre booking spaces is advised. They are located 50 metres away. Drop-off facilities are available.

How to get there:

By road:

From the North:

Exit the M6 at junction 16, taking the A500 towards Stoke-on-Trent. After about 6 miles, take the exit for Tunstall (A527). At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit, signposted Tunstall A527/Longport Road. After ½ mile, take the 2nd exit at the small roundabout onto the B5051. Go straight on at the next roundabout and straight across the crossroads into Moorland Road. Take the 2nd left into Hamil Road and the ground is on the left.

From the South:

Exit the M6 at junction 15, joining the A500 towards Stoke-on-Trent. Follow the A500 as far as the A527 exit, joining the A527 towards Tunstall. Directions are then as above.

Car parking:

There is a large car park located outside a superstore next to the ground which costs £5. Otherwise street parking is available in the roads surrounding the stadium if you arrive early enough to take advantage.

By train:

Longport station is the closest to the ground, but is a good 30 minute walk away and is not as well served by trains as Stoke-on-Trent station is, although that is over four miles away. A taxi is the best option from there as the bus can take about 45 minutes.

Directions from Longport Station:

Services run hourly from Crewe, Stoke and Derby to Longport. Walking to the ground takes around 25 minutes. Cross over the line (if travelling from Stoke/Derby) and walk along Station Street. At the mini-roundabout follow the main road round to the left going up the hill. After a couple of minutes take the first major left onto Newcastle Street (B5051). Enter Burslem. Pass the Bull's Head pub at St. John's Square. Bear left onto Market Place. Shortly after cross the main road onto Jenkins Street which becomes Hamil Road. The ground will soon be visible on the left. Turn left into Lorne Street.

By Bus from Stoke-on-Trent Station:

Come out of the main station doors. Turn left past a bus stop and the taxi rank. Walk to the end of this road, which only takes a couple of minutes. Then on your left is a railway bridge, but cross over the road and turn right, going up towards a bus stop opposite Signal Radio. Get the number 21 First bus to Burslem. Get off the bus outside a modern building called Ceramica, just after a big crossroads. If you sit on the door side of the bus, then you can see Ceramica and Port Vale F.C. road signs. On the driver’s side look out for Burslem Methodist Church. Once off the bus outside Ceramica cross over the road and turn left. Then take an immediate right at Jenkins Street. This road leads into Hamil Road, which is then a 5 minute straight walk to Vale Park.

Where to drink:

Alcohol is available inside the ground.

There is a bar called Tommy Cheadle’s situated in the away end car park, and it has been known to welcome away fans, if not in large groups. BTW the bar’s licensee used to be Pete Conway, Robbie Williams' father.

Unfortunately the choice of pubs for away supporters to drink in near to the ground or in the town centre is very limited as nearly all are ‘Home fans only’.

The Vine pub at the bottom of Hamil Road is sometimes ‘home fans only’ and sometimes away fan-friendly.

The Bull's Head in St John's Square is away fan-friendly. It’s the local outlet for the nearby Titanic Brewery and is listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, with up to nine real ales on offer and up to 10 traditional ciders and perries. To find this pub: From the outside of the away end, turn right and go down to the bottom of Hamil Road (passing the Vine pub on your left). Turn right at the T-junction and then go straight across the traffic lights at the crossroads. Proceed past KFC, Wades and the New Inn on the right and then if you look over to your left, you will see a square with the Bull’s Head, which is located on the right of this square.

Both the Leopard and Post Office Vaults, which are both near to the Bulls Head, have been known to welcome away fans.

The Bursley Ale House, based in the former Chambers Wine Bar in Wedgwood Place, Burslem has opened since Latics last visit. It has a wide selection for real ale lovers and comes highly recommended. https://twitter.com/bursleyalehouse

Where to eat:

The usual food is available on the concourse.

Outside there are usually a couple of burger vans, but further up Hamil Road there is a cafe just past the church. Further on still, the second street on the right, May Street has a chip shop 100 yards from Hamil Road. Down into the town centre there are restaurants and a KFC.

Looking forward to this. Great acoustics In the stand. Just never been on train before and never realised how far out the city centre vale park was.

There is no city center, just various blobs of smegma. It really is a :censored:hole by any standard. Enjoy the game though ;)
