20 years to the day...

Recommended Posts

T'was the beginning of the end. Memories of that day.. Down for the weekend staying with my Dad's mates in the Smoke. Chelsea fans saying they'd fancy their chances more against United than us after they won (Luton?). Always look on the bright side of life, snapping my flag, Cockney United fans thinking it was hilarious they were able to direct us to Wembley (only to be laughed at by me for getting beaten by Villa in the League Cup final a few weeks earlier) and arriving back at school around lunch time on the Monday with all my primary school United supporting mates ready to rip me...

If I knew at that point how influential Hughes' goal would be in our downfall, I might have knocked it all the head there and then. ;-)

Some may think I'm being defeatist, but I still look back with pride that I got to see my team play at Wembley in the Semi-Final of a major cup competition. That's what I'll take from the day

I admire your positivity. It was the most heartbreaking moment in football.

April 10th 1994 didn't happen.

The FA Cup semi-final between Manchester United and Oldham Athletic didn't take place that year.

The FA Cup doesn't exist.

Mark Hughes doesn't exist.

Manchester United isn't real.

That's what I've told myself every day for the last 20 years. It helps me deal with it.

I have a friend who sends me a image of a certain pube-headed tosspot sticking his boot out from time to time. Office furniture has been damaged. I have to have the remote handy watching the build up on semi final day, you know they'llsneak it in somehow.

I'm ashamed to say that I had been lulled into hoping that they might win last night - UEFA co-efficients, sympathy for Moyes etc.

This thread has reminded me why I won't make that mistake again.

Absolutely heartbreaking goal, that I still bizarrely remember going in almost in slow motion from the other end. Time to forget it ever happened.

That's got to be a forum fine surely.

Don't understand why anyone would care about English clubs doing well in europe anymore. There's no more reason why i would want Chelsea to win that Atletico Madrid or any other European side.

Don't actively want them to lose but it's just entertainment

I walked out of Wembley and a Utd fan came upto me with his hand outstretched to shake my hand and commiserate with me. I kicked him as hard as I could and then walked off quickly. It is my only ever football violence but I do not think a court in the land would convict me.

I just had united fans laughing at me. Grown blokes. I was 10.

They can :censored: off.

I was 8 at the time and was convinced we'd win the replay.. and stay up.

I was full of optimism, much to me dad's better judgement. Went to the toilet at 1-0 only to miss Kanchelkskis' screamer. I thought we'd walk the league the seasom after. Age (and perhaps Latics) has made me pessimistic.
