Livepool fans says "thanks" to fellow supporters

Recommended Posts

Dear all

Next week marks the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster.

This year the liverpool walkers will again set off from Hillsborough at midnight on Friday 18th April on a 96 mile walk back to Anfield visiting various football grounds on the way. See below facebook page, hope the link works

On there are photos from a pre-visit to BP at the crawley game with Billy Quarmby and two other chaps and with their new green flag created to support the event

This year is not a fund raiser but its to say "thanks" to the support of other fans and their respective clubs

Oldham athletic is one of the clubs they are visting as most of the walkers class Oldham as their second team and BP as a second home. They have timetabled the longest stay at our ground on Saturday afternoon from 3.30pm until 7.00pm for a refreshement/lunch/physio break. The club have kindly offered to open up the Verlin stand (RRE) to accomodate the walkers and support crew.

So if you see a blue latics shirt amongst a see of red, walking through Royton to BP about 3ish....give us a wave or a pip your car horn as I have agreed to meet them coming over the border from Huddersfield and walk the 6 miles in, or if the see them walking on down broadway about 7pm onwards to Ethiad give them a wave and pip your horn too.

Also, if your at a bit of a loss and are in the area, come down to BP and say hello, meet some fellow fans, gloat over our magnificent victory last season and come and check out the RRE if you have not been in it at all. Myslef and Rick Attwood will be there if you have any playershare questions too.

Thanks

Ps additional article uploaded today on the FB page on 11.04.14 with a special mention and thanks to oafc. Quote

"From there we'll walk, breaking for the occasional stop. We'll stop at various clubs and we'll be welcomed in once again by the people at Oldham Athletic, who have shown us fantastic support."

Dear all, here is today's update. I am planning to met the walkers at Dowry reservoir at 1pm on Saturday. The walking route is:

A640 Huddersfield rd

Connects to the A672 oldham rd and then changes to Ripponden rd.

Walk down ripponden rd and turn into sholver lane and turn into cop rd.

Cross over where the duke of York pub/bulls head pubs are and walk past Royton and crompton school to the junction of shaw rd.

We then turn left down shaw rd A663 to the Rochdale rd junction (Carter's pub is)

Turn left onto Rochdale rd A671 heading towards oldham passing the white hart and Grey mare

Turning right down Sheepfoot lane to the RRE Verlin stand aiming to be there for 3ish.

I will be the one wearing latics blue, my crofty shirt, so if you on route, or passing by in a car give us a wave.

The trust have arranged with the club for the Verlin RRE to be open so please feel free to come on down and meet new friends, bask in the sun in the stand and see how the new stand is coming on too.

Rick Attwood and myself will be there and possible Chris hill too so if you have any trust/playershare questions please come on down.

I've sent you a message on Facebook Tracy. We're thinking of joining you for the walk from Denshaw to Latics! No support vehicle this time though. Also, no :censored: to look after....

I don't know whom you are referring too...heheh...I'll pm you my number on return reply.

And OAFCTom made me laugh today as he started to sing our Queen song....heheh...

Many thanks to our fans who came down to Boundary park today to greet the Hillsborough walkers.

They were blown away by the support and hospitality shown to them as not many other clubs on the way are going to open the doors like we have.

Think we have won the hearts of a few more Liverpool fans who now class latics as their second team.....they weren't for bartering for that Sturridge bloke though, even when I offered maddog and Jorvik as part exchange. Don't figure....heheh

Now going to log off as I have no feeling from the waist down and I only walked about 7 miles.

Thanks Clare, they all commented on how welcome they felt and Cherie even said she never know anything like it where the fans have a special relationship with their club that they will hand the keys over to open up.

I did tell them that once they were in, they weren't getting out, but we could manage that...heheh

It's some positive feedback for both club, trust who got the keys and our fans who walked, baked or came down.

Even key103 came down to do some interviews too

Something to build on
