Coming down

Recommended Posts

Just looked at the Championship table and it's bunched up again when it looked as if it would be 3 from the bottom 4 a couple of weeks ago.

Blackpool just two points clear and a bitch of a run in (Burnley, Brighton, Wigan, Charlton).

Doncaster and Birmingham three points clear (though Brum have a game in hand and far better GD than those around them).

Huddersfield probably safe six points clear with 4 to play but haven't won in 9.

Yeovil are gone so Blackpool and Millwall to join them (especially as we'll likely lose Brentford) would be nice.

Losing wolves is a blow cause of the money and no 'massive' clubs coming down. Maybe Preston going up or Rotherham!

Crewe, Shrewsbury, maybe tranmere or notts county going down. Losing a few northern teams and being replaced with Rochdale, fleetwood maybe and chesterfield! So could be a close league next year

Blackpool and Barnsley this best for us to come down. Close away days and will probably bring a decent following to BP.

We've got to stay up first though...

Looking at the teams coming down the away games don't look particularly interesting especially when you consider we are losing brentford wolves and god forbid orient.

If it stays as it is I can see sheff utd running away with it next season apart from that it will be close and a couple of dark horses could emerge.

Blackpool's demise is really sad to see as a local, as they graced the Premier League only 3 seasons ago and went down by one point. Lack of investment by the owners, the Oyston family, and frequent managerial changes have really killed any hope of a revival and are now hanging on to Championship status by a fingernail. Only two wins in last 26 and never scored more than one goal in a game since November tells the story. I think we can even beat them as they are now. And will struggle in League 1 without significant team rebuilding, and owners won't put down cash.

I'm looking at the decent teams coming up.

Rochdale, Chesterfield, Scunthorpe and York (hopefully) or Burton.

You ever been to Scunthorpe?!

Birmingham would be the one, new ground for me and plenty of others I'd imagine.

And Lee Clark would almost certainly be out of a job, an added Brucie bonus.

Yes, several times. English League One North (including Colchester, Crawley & Peterborough).

Works for me.

Sad,and yet also quite funny. Them being 2 division higher than us always felt like a deeply wrong inversion of the natural order of things. Haven't been to bloomfield road since 1997, I don't know if the fact that it's no longer a crumbling :censored:heap will make the trip more or less enjoyable.

Tbh i never get it when people say they want teams like birmingham wolves leeds sheff u sheff weds forest and going further back city etc down here. The easier this league is the more chance we have of doing well in it so for me you can take birmingham and stuff it where the sun dont shine. Give me yeovil barnsley and blackpool any day of the week purely as i think they are the weakest three teams potentially.

Blackpool's demise Is not sad to see in any way, shape or form. It's absolutely hilarious. I hate those tangerine ball-bags, I hope they go down and I hope we rip them apart home and away next season.

Obviously I hope we stay up first.

Woof.

They're one of the teams that give me that hope that we could one day be PremierLeague again. If only for a season like Blackpool.

They were one of the most exciting teams to go up too and gave it a right good go, which is what I like to see in a football team.

Well, there were certain factors that contributed to their most unlikely promotion to the top league. Inspirational and mad manager (Olly), some good signings (Charlie Adam, David Vaughn, Alex Baptiste) and the rest of the squad punching above their weight (Eardley, GTF, Ormerod, Evatt) in playing an attractive, attacking football. After the narrow relegation, they managed to get to the playoff final in the next season, but last two seasons have been a history of decline, as one by one good players left and replaced by loanees, rejects and crocks, as the Oystons simply refuse to pay significant transfer fees and agents' commissions coupled with one of the meanest salary structures in the Championship. This penny-pinching has weakened the team significantly and yet has made Blackpool the only club in professional football to turn in a profit year on year. Karl Oyston is a businessman first and a football fan very distant second and the family have siphoned off club funds to prop up ailing businesses, which as owners they are entitled to do. Hardly any of parachute payments has been spent on players, on stadium (still with temporary stands) or training grounds (with poor drainage and facilities). It just shows how difficult it is for a small club to keep top-flight or even second-tier status in the leagues dominated by big spenders and greedy players.

Living in Poulton le Fylde I took great pleasure in predicting to all my tangerine work collagues that with Ince at the helm they would be relegated.

If and when they go down I will be collecting some money.

Having lived in the area for 4 years now I will feel a little sorry for friends because their team is on a downward spiral but not to much as I think Blackpool are :censored: and I want to smash them at Bloomfield next year.

Also bring Fleetwood up, 2 great days to look forward to.

Birmingham be the only new ground for me but think there be safe, noticed Blackpool have struggled in recent weeks but can see them winning on last day, Barnsley leave it late but still think them Yeovil, and one from Charlton or Millwall so still have one London trip to look forward if Orient happen to win the play offs.

You know why I enjoyed playing City at this level. Because it gave us another game at Maine Road to beat them in.

Worse thing is last two seasons they started off very well.

What happened to that Latvian owner of Blackpool who pretty much funded their escape from this :censored:hole of a division when they gave us a good booting in the play-offs? Has he gone now?

Every time I see Barry Ferguson interviewed on FLS he is permenantly wearing the "I'm :censored:ed as a manager" face. Let's get them back. Not arsed about teams like Brum. They'd not bring as many as say, Fleetwood or even Rochdale would (they never have historically - :censored:e support). They'd have a Wolves type effect though and like someone else has said; if we have any chance of promotion in the future; it'll be enhanced without 'sleeping giants' down here with us.

Valeri Belokon is Blackpool's president but is no longer involved in day-to-day running of the club, though I believe the club still owe him a few millions from the money he put up for ground redevelopment..

As Karl Oyston won't put up cash for an experienced manager, Barry Ferguson will stay till end of season. While his inexperience has been a factor in the team's current position, basically the squad just isn't good enough for Championship. They signed Rob Earnshaw only to get him injured in training, like Ricardo Fuller and Michael Chopra (off-the-field rumpus), all mid-30s have-beens.

Hiring Paul Ince as manager didn't help either!

Interesting that they turn in a profit year-on-year and still come across as being one of the poorest teams in the Championship, must be so many bankrolled clubs at that level.

Until we look like being in a position to challenge the top teams in our league I don't mind seeing a bigger club coming down, usually it means a new away ground to visit and a decent atmosphere.
