Hopes, fears and expectations 2014/15

Recommended Posts

Hopes: City sell Michah Richards, we finish the stand, stay clear of injuries, don't sell any of our better players, draw Man Utd away in the FA Cup and push for the play-offs.

Fears: Half the squad is wiped out with injury/sales, we have to rely on loanees from Man City who have no intention of becoming a professional Footballer, Johnson gets sacked and replaced by Phil Brown, Rochdale hammer us and we yet again stagnate in the bottom 6 of the table with crowds dropping below 3,000 on a regular basis.

Expectations: We'll progress from our "relegation fodder" tag, have a few decent run of results, sell one of our better players to one of the challenging teams in this Division for an "undisclosed fee", finish between 8th and 14th, finish the stand and see average crowds rise again.

Hopes: We get a striker who can score on a regular basis. We finish in the top half and beat a premier league side in the FA Cup.

Fear: Johnson doesn't look to bring in a striker and trusts the kids we have up front. We struggle for goals and go down. The sun lead a backdated investigation into Latics 5 Peterborough 4 from Jan 2014 for match fixing and the game is found to be a fixed game. My hope in life dies.

Expectations: More of the same. Some really good stuff, some really :censored: stuff but the majority in between. Finish between 13th and 18th

Hopes: Champions with JCH and Turner bagging 58 between them.

Fears: Champions losing 8 of our promotion winning team before the championship season kicks off for undisclosed fees to Newcastle. (with the exception of Chubs, Brown and son of Daenerys Targaryen).

Expectations: All of the above.

Sorry but this is a stupid question.

Surely the 3 answers are always going to be promotion, mid table and relegation? Would it be any different if you asked the supporters of 72 football league clubs?

Of course it's not stupid. For a start Fents has given some good examples in his question. You're telling me Coventry fans hope to be champions. Or that Sheff Utd fans expect to finish mid table? On paper this League is the weakest for a number of years, so more epople will hope to get promoted, of course, it rarely works out like that.

SO I hope we get some decent sponsors for the new stand, play good football, get some crowds back. II know nothing of the new signings, so have very low expectations there-stands to reason only 33% will work.I hope we have done enough selling for the year. I hope Broady does an Alan Hardy and gets lucky with a sponsorship that propels us. I hope we do better in the LDV.

I hope the moaning :censored:ers have nothing to moan about. Not that anything will stop them. I hope everyone will stop thinking we are the only club that states undisclosed for any fee.

I expect a bit of flirting with the relegation, and a mid table finish. Will give that one.

I fear that lose a few games, and all the barracking will return. I fear Richards will go for free/pittance. Its getting to close to the start of the season for comfort.

I don't want manure away. home yes. I hope we make play off final. would be awesome to see the blues out at wembley

don't have any fears. after the montano incident last season which i think had an effect on the team.

expectations. I expect us to have a better season than last. ten points better off.

Hopes:

That our defence "hits the ground running" so to speak.

That the stand gets built.

That we draw a money-spinning cup tie or someone away who's within driving distance of me!

That at least one of the youngsters has a breakthrough season (ala Tarky).

Fears:

That LJ's tactics for this season breaks up the good work from the end of last season.

That we sell a vital part of our team mid-season, leading to a collapse.

That match-fixing will play some part in the coming season.

That Richards will go on a free.

Expectations:

That we stay away from relegation. Thinking "defence first" might be boring but it will guarantee this as a minimum imo.

That we sell a player for £350k in January.

That we get Liverpool in the FA Cup.

That we'll give JCH and Philliskirk (and Turner from the bench) the opportunity to show what they can do in August, and if they don't perform we'll then bring in an experienced striker near deadline day. I also think this would be the right thing to do.

Hopes: Johnson learns from previous mistakes. We build a squad that will gel together, only relying on short term loanees to cover injuries and long term loanees to sign quality players we could never afford. We push for promotion, play-offs would do for me. If we don't push for promotion, a few exciting runs/games with us playing attacking football would be nice. Young players push on and improve, I have high hopes for Jonson Clarke-Harris.

Fears: As with most recent seasons the number of seemingly pointless loans rise whilst our own players sit and watch on. We once again finish bottom half (I'm optimistic enough to be confident we'll be L1 this time next year).

Expectations: Johnson will again attempt to play exciting football. It'll work some of the time, but other times it won't and we'll either lose or revert to a more disciplined system to get results. This well get us a top half finish. That is around 12th, not 4th. Our young squad's form will oscillate wildly, some will disappoint while others will impress (I'm looking at you Jonson).

Hopes: I'm getting more optimistic by the day for 2014/15. I reckon even now we've got an okay squad and it'll probably improve. Brian Wilson was a really good signing and Liam Kelly could be just as good as Korey. I think a tilt at the play-offs could be good, but realistically I want us aiming for the top 10, winning our home games to get the crowds back and scoring some goals.

Fears: Any of the seasons under Dickov or Penney. Or we start bad, Johnson gets sacked/walks and we end up rebuilding and facing yet another slog. Basically, just no more :censored:. Please Latics, please.

Expectations: I think, given the way we finished last season, plus the fact that clubs I class as smaller than us (Orient, Walsall, Port Vale) did okay last year, it's reasonable to expect a top half finish as bare minimum this year. I really think we'll do well this year though.

HOPES - We are the surprise package of the league all our signings prove to be masterstrokes and Clarke Harris and philiskirk prove to be the finest young strike partnership outside the PL and we go up via the play offs. Richards is sold for +£10million we pay for the stand and it is finished and up and running.

EXPECTATIONS - More of the same in the league good performances in October get a few optimists talking of the play offs. A few bad results in March will get the pessimists talking about relegation and why we have spent so much on a stand when the team is full of loans and short term deals. The stand will be built. OWTB will have the September stupid poll making a completely unfair comparison with one of our legends being compared to one of our new players who has started well.

FEARS - The signings will be flops we will start bad Johnson is replaced by Gary Megson who takes us down playing the worst football imaginable. We can't afford to finish the stand and we have an enormous white elevent on one side of the pitch Simon Corney puts the club into administration, their are no buyers so the trust has to take complete control of the club. We struggle along in league 2 with no future

Hopes: The new signings all gell and we have season in the top half of the league, pushing for a play-off place. Richards is sold for over-the-odds and we get the North Stand up well ahead of schedule. JCH and Philliskirk push-on with their development and score plenty of goals.

Fears: The team don't gel and we spend another season battling to stay out of the bottom 4. The North Stand goes all 'Port Vale' and we end up playing in a yellow away kit.

Expectation: Mid-table. Stand gets finished around Feb. JCH scores around 15 goals and goes to warm a bench in the Championship.

Hopes: we are blessed with luck for our manager and his group of players - I learn the advantage, to me, of knowing the amount of undisclosed transfer fees and find I'm due a refund.

Fears: we are cursed with bad luck, again, for our manager and his group of players - I learn the advantage, to me, of knowing the value of transfers and I'm debilitated with regret as there is no money in the pot for a refund.

Expectations: we will flirt with top six while comfortably avoiding bottom eight - I will never learn the amount of undisclosed fees and trundle along happily, as I do now.
