Latics4Life 2014/15

Recommended Posts

Since starting up the Latics4Life scheme when the £10 season tickets were introduced, Dean (laticdickovarmy) has done a great job with it, ensuring kids that otherwise might not have the opportunity to watch live football, do so at Boundary Park.  It seems Dean doesn't have the same time to dedicate to it now (I know the feeling, having a young family myself) so I have offered to help out as I think it would be a real shame for this scheme to fizzle out.

To me, this scheme is more important than Playershare.  That's not to devalue Playershare - and certainly not the efforts of those involved - but I think it's great to think that a relatively small donation can allow a kid who wouldn't otherwise get to see live football the opportunity to do so.  More than that though, anything that can be done to get more kids hooked on Latics will hopefully bring its rewards when the poor buggers are adults willing to shell out for a season of suffering themselves in years to come! That's why, like previous seasons, in the unlikely event that I win anything in the OWTB Prediction League, the money will be donated to Latics4Life.*

I have contacted the club's Community Trust, who are very keen for Latics4Life to continue for the season ahead and I'm hoping there may be some assistance on offer from the Supporter's Trust (Rick?)

Please note that the PayPal details for donations have changed and should be made to Latics4Life@outlook.com.  There is a link below for anyone who wants to make a donation.

In terms of distributing tickets, if anyone is involved with any local kids' groups that might benefit from tickets, please give me a shout by PM or email Latics4Life@outlook.com.

Thanks Steve, as mentioned before it is greatly appreciated that someone is willing to dedicate to time to keep this going

I have changed all correspondence now so that donations going forward can be sent that way, in the past we have raised the funds for approx. 150 season tickets for under 16's and having spoken to the club many of those were used for well over 50% of the games last season, thus hooking people for future years :)

I agree Steve, it does not devalue playershare at all and is more important to engage the younger generation as without them means no club and then no playershare.

Pay day next week for me so I'll donate then

Well done to dean and of course yourself for keeping this initiative in the foremost of events.

I will raise it at the trust meeting with the committee as I know you know wardle so I'll kick him to see if the trust can donate more time to promote this..or do you and laticdickovarmy have concerns with regards to being linked with the trust?

i coach Boundary Park Juniors, aged from 9 to 10... there's the odd latics shirt knocking about at training but only one actually has a season ticket! think 6 or 7 of them would love one, it might even convert their dads aswell who are currently 'armchair' reds/blues

You can use the Donate link in the original post, Kieran. I'll drop you a note about BPJ when I get some time in the next few days. Cheers.

An avid reader of OWTB and very rare poster. Just donated £10 as this is a very good cause - arguably more vital than PlayerShare which I also contribute to monthly. If we are to get more kids through the door it's at the start of this season - our promotion year. Sorry, don't know what came over me there - our gradual improvement season.

Cheers

John
