Managerial stats end of 2013/14 season

Can't see why Joe Royle gets touted as the greatest manager in our history..

Royle managed the team at the highest level for 3 seasons....the others didn't. Consequently the opposition was the best this country had to offer.

Except for David Ashworth, who is 2nd in the PPG table and top the win % table. He earned quite a few votes in the poll last year, as did Herbert Bamlett, the other manager to manage us in the top flight.

Royle was arguably helped to win by the fact that no fan alive saw us in the top flight in the early 20th century. That and the fact we apparently had quite a bit of money relatively in those days, which helped our progression a little.

I don't think we did in comparison to most other Division 2 sides going into 89-90, did we?

And we certainly didn't the three years we were in Div 1/Premier League.

Stand corrected. Must have been great to be an Oldham supporter a hundred years ago.....well apart from the entire world war thing.

I meant for Ashworth and Bamlett, not Royle, ie. their success has a little bit of tarnish to it as we were like a forerunner for City/Chelsea now. We perhaps spent more than our fair share in the 87-91 period but that was because we sold players for more than our fair share too.
