Keepingthe Faith
The winger crosses the ball, the centre forward waits for the goalie to catch the ball then 'shoulder barges' (assaults) the goalie and the ball into the net....goooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllll!! BP1960
When England won the World Cup in 66 the team was known as "Ramsey's Wingless Wonders" giving an indication that the game upto then had relied on wing play , and Latics were no different . Colin Whitaker, Johnny Colquhoun, Peter Phoenix, Bob Ledger, tony Bartley etc all got down the wing and put the ball over. Simple stuff with centre forwards getting on the end. But defences were much less "sophisticated" in those days, and in reality it was all a simpler game. You wouldn't call Alan Lawson or George Seivewright sophisticated then Pete? GlossopLatic
Personally I think it's quite important to have a character like pulis in the PL the way he plays offers something different rather than every team trying to play the same way. Plus I always used to like the way he used to rattle arsenal and arsene wenger holier than thou attitude always seemed pathetic "how dare these teams from the provences come and get under our skin, they should be lucky that we grace them with our precence" Let's also not lose sight of the fact that our cup run 18months ago was not based on tikka takka football. It was about getting the ball upto a 6ft 6in striker who supposedly better players could not handle. Did we not find that entertaining edge of the seat football?
