jimsleftfoot
Harry - you can find it in the Northern Rail Article (2nd here link from the OS story) "This summer Network Rail will be undertaking the first of several major projects so that the electrification of the line between Manchester and Preston (via Chorley) can go ahead as planned. Forming part of the £600m investment in the North West's railway infrastructure, the line between Chorley and the junction with the West Coast mainline at Euxton will be closed between Saturday 19 July and Sunday 31 August 2014 inclusive. The closure will allow Network Rail engineers access to Chorley tunnel where extensive works are needed to lower the track to provide enough clearance to install the overhead power lines necessary for electric trains. In addition to the tunnel work, several road bridges in the Chorley area will be rebuilt and it is planned to reinstate the Grade II listed 'Chorley Flying Arches' which were removed in the summer of 2008. Once electrification of this route is complete (December 2016) quieter, greener, electric trains will be introduced which will mean faster journey times for our customers and will also provide a significant increase in the number of seats available on many services. How will these works affect the train service? Click on the route for the amended timetable Blackpool – Manchester Victoria Manchester – Manchester Airport local stopping services Manchester Airport – Southport and Kirkby Preston – Blackpool Bolton – Manchester Northern services: Monday to Friday - a reduced frequency train service will operate between Chorley and Manchester Victoria. Replacement buses will run between Chorley and Preston calling at Buckshaw Parkway and Leyland connecting with the train service at Chorley. Weekends - replacement buses will be provided between Bolton and Preston calling at all intermediate stations. If you are travelling between Manchester and Preston direct trains are available via Wigan. Full details of the revised timetable will be available here shortly. First TransPennine Express services: During this period services between Manchester and Blackpool North / Barrow-in-Furness / Windermere will be diverted and will no longer be able to call at Horwich Parkway, Chorley or Buckshaw Parkway. Careful planning has been required to avoid impacting on those services already operating on these routes - as a result most services on the section between Bolton and Preston / Blackpool will operate to a revised timetable with many services towards Manchester departing EARLIER than normal. Where it is has been possible a limited number of services will call at Leyland and / or Euxton Balshaw Lane. rudemedic
The "FACT" that there are no trains to Preston on Saturday was in both last night's programme and Saturday's. As per OWTB rules- when fact is capitalised, it is actually the opposite. Trains are definitely running, as confirmed by Piccadilly ticket office this evening. rosa
The club are doing you all a favour. Preston's crap. You'll get lost on your way to the ground from the station cos the directions tell you to turn left at a pub that's not there any more and we'll get robbed blind and you'll end up miserable drinking wine straight from the bottle on a rail replacement bus home and the bus driver'll pull over in Wigan so one of the passengers can piss in someone's hedge. Stay at home and watch the challenge cup final instead.

I prefer, on arriving in Birmingham, to announce in a slighter louder than usual voice how "it's good to be in England's third city again". Pisses off the natives. Ryan
The Doncaster ticket article, whilst factually correct, is slightly misleading. Headline is ALL ticket but they just mean no cash on the turnstile (like most grounds in this league) but you can buy from their ticket office. Pisses off the natives. They really like it when you loudly announce "there are some right weird :censored: in this city" as well. I don't know how leeslover doesn't get beaten up more often.
