HarryBosch
We used to make such a thing of the fact we never scored from corners and set pieces. Now we often do and nobody seems to ever mention it. M'Voto, Tarky, Kusunga, Lockwood, Wilson all getting forward to head home under Johnson. Elokobi will before long I'd imagine...... One of the cornerstones of any successful team?
GlossopLatic
Have we got any stats on this? Set pieces were a major weakness under Sheridan and a constant use of the short corner. Which was strange when we had one of the best dead ball specialists in the lower leagues in Andy Liddell on the books at the time. Last nights goal looked like it was one that had been worked on as Wilson made a run across the front post. We have 2 players who can deliver an excellent dead ball when they put their mind to it in Mills and Jones. We will when everyone is fit have enough players who are big enough to attack the ball. HarryBosch
The General might get double figures this season if he's back fit ahead of schedule. Which he undoubtedly will be.

For last night's goal we also had somebody completely unmarked on the far post. The old near post flick to an unmarked Rodger Wylde routine. jimsleftfoot
I don't consider our success rate from corners to be great.

Stats demonstrate that the correlation between corners and goals is minimal. Anderson & Sally in "The Numbers Game" demonstrated this after looking at the connection between corners and goals in Premier League games , 2001/2 - 2010/11. As an indication , in that latter season a sample of 134 games was examined - a total of 1.434 corners. Only one in five corners led to a shot on goal. And only one in nine of those shots led to a goal. . Simply, a Premier League team scores a goal from a corner once every ten games. Ok, Premier League defences are better organised than others , but corners at League 1 level are probably over hyped as sources of goals too. Of course,as a consequence, teams shouldn't have a high rate of conceding goals from corners either....and I don't know what Latics' stats are on that.
