FA directive but lickle OAFC are the only ones who seem to enforce it, its no suprise when we are the only club in league 1 who want to enforce the ground regs word for word, we have by far the largest team of matchday stewards that I have seen and thats to control some of the smallest crowds, I cant remember the last time I sat down at an away game, yet we have had so much trouble doing this at home yet if you watch Match of the Day and Football League show its happening the length and breadth of the country, we are down to our last 3000 fans are we gonna pick them off one by one ?They are not hooligans they are fans who the club should be fighting tooth and nail to keep not making them feel they are back at school its about time the club backed off and showed a bit of common sense before we lose the support that we still have, its the club not the fans causing the problems and the last time I looked we were the paying customers.

I assume you are familiar with section 27 where the Police can remove and hold someone for 48 hours without any offence being committed? No evidence needed, just on a 'feeling'. Where are the rights, or priveliges, of honest football fans being caught up in this nonsense are taken away.

I think that you'll find in most cases they will instruct you to leave a decided area and not return to it for 24 hours (but it can be a maximum of 48hours) if you seen in that area within 24 hours it will be classed a breach and you will be arrested

But human rights are observed with this law thou

If you have to past through the area in the said time period for religious or health reasons you can't be arrested

Edit** eduction and employment can be added to that aswell

Would the stewards have jumped on a group of youths all videoing the penalty? a middle aged man on his own seems an easy target.

They have smart phones, he has a borderline professional grade camera. As always I doubt we're getting the full story. Like with the persistent stander who was kicked out, this guy likely (not certainly, likely) had a polite word in his ear which he either ignored or did not take kindly to.

Either way the FA are notoriously litigious (example being the fixture list and our need on here to remove it at all costs) and it would seem silly to risk the implications of that for the sake of one fan's pictures?

But it's more fun to rant about it and call it a human rights breach than it is to take a deep breath and get on with life.

From the Club's OS:

Ground Regulations

16: Mobile telephones and other mobile devices are permitted within the Ground PROVIDED THAT (i) they are used for personal and private use only (which, for the avoidance of doubt and by way of example only, shall not include the capturing, logging, recording, transmitting, playing, issuing, showing, or any other communication of any Material for any commercial purposes); and (2) no Material that is captured by a mobile telephone or other mobile device may be published or otherwise made available to any third parties including, without limitation, via social networking sites.19: Save as set out in paragraph 16 above, no person (other than a person who holds an appropriate licence) may capture, log, record, transmit, play, issue, show or otherwise communicate (by digital or other means) any Material in relation to the Match, any players or other persons present in the Ground and/or the Ground, nor may they bring into the Ground or use within the Ground (or provide to, facilitate or otherwise assist another person to use within the Ground) any equipment or technology which is capable of capturing, logging, recording, transmitting, playing, issuing, showing or otherwise communicating (by digital or other means) any such Material. Copyright, database rights and any other intellectual property rights in any unauthorised recording or transmission is assigned (by way of present assignment of future rights) to the Club and The Football League. You further agree (if and whenever required to do so by the Club and/or The Football League) to promptly execute all instruments and do all things necessary to vest the right, title and interest in such rights to the Club and The Football League absolutely and with full title guarantee.

So, if I read the above correctly, you can take photographs using a mobile phone as long as they are for your own personal use (I.e. not taken for commercial purposes) AND they are not subsequently made available via any social media sites.

Good old regs 16 & 19. Simples.

Some smart phones have photographic capabilities good enough for professional productions, the point I was making was as with the environmental officers who fine people for dropping a cigarette in a public place (which is is quite right) yet are nowhere to be seen when groups of drunks are spewing up in Oldham Town centre on weekend nights.

Easy targets are what enforcement officers like.

Or alternatively dont visit the place that causes you so much grief which seems to be the answer to some peoples problems.

If we're speculating about what happened I'd be very surprised if it was a "polite word" with the previous form of thses lot.

Has anyone ever been done for it? I can't find anything.

In isolation you'd be right but this is just the latest in a long, increasing list of over the top stewarding by these jobsworths

When I played and worked at Bury three/four years ago we travelled down to Torquay and there were quite a few Bury supporters ejected for this (although I think there may have been another motive for this)

This provoked supporters to riot against stewards and things turned ugly. Later on in the game after the trouble had finished, all Bury supporters were singing 'phone's out, we won't behave ourselves' before everybody pointing their phones and flash towards the pitch pretending to take photos. Torquay stewards didn't know what to do so left it.

That is the only time I have see such trouble over such a little incident

Comment in the Chron:

Sorry pal, i saw the whole situation and i think you can consider yourself a very lucky man not to have been escorted out by the Police. The stewards involved dealt with this situation in a professional manner and gave you every chance to calm down and stay and watch the remainder of the game.

Undoubtedly some phones have good cameras, but none come close to what's offered by a SLR/DSLR... not even the same game, let alone league.

To your other point I don't blame Environmental officers for not going about Oldham at night confronting large gangs of drunken people - the police have enough difficulty managing that situation without the addition of people almost certain to get a kicking... and I'll bet you'll find plenty of well trained police who don't really fancy it much either. Let alone someone on minimum wage with a (likely) complete lack of self defence equipment or technique.

The two are entirely incomparable, is what I am saying.

The club have confirmed he was ejected for using threatening words and behaviour towards stewards after being advised that he was not permitted to take pictures.

Oh, turns out there was another side to this after all. What a shock. And he wasn't a particularly 'easy target' after all...?

Two steward stories and both have been vindicated. I'm not pro or anti, just point it out.

Fair enough about rights, although I stand by the fact that Police treat honest football fans as criminals before a face is even slashed.
