How to use the budget.

Recommended Posts

Didn't go yesterday but from the games I've seen, reading people's views, and LJ's comments, we are short of a poacher.

Poleon it's to early to tell- he may come good. He may not. Philly- if played up front will get goals- but I don't think he'll be prolific- not selfish enough. An can you rely on Forte's goals- When you consider his fitness an playing on the left? (Hope so)

How many games in LJ's tenture have we created enough but jus lacked the finish? A lot IMO.

I've always thought your only as good as your strikers in this league, the only time we got anywhere in this league we had someone prolific up front. I find it strange that we don't sacrifice maybe 2/3 squad players to pay for a bit of quality of front. Rather than a gamble/journeyman/young kid.

Just for saying sake- why bring in or offer deals to Dieng, Mellor, Morgan smith- (I'm jus picking picking three current fringe players, not I don't like any of them) when that could of gone on a striker/poacher we need.

I understand money is tight, I understand we need a squad, I jus think we've got quite a few who aren't really gonna get a game, an yet LJ says he needs/wants a striker. In which case has he used his budget wisely? Or do we jus accept that he has to juggle, an you can't commit to much on one player?

we got a proven goal scorer last season but he ended up playing every other than his position, the fans got on his back, the manager got on his back, then we released him from his two year contract so he could sign for a club up scotland who won the scottish league cup thus themselves in the europa league thanks to it (having watched a few of those games and keeping my eye out for their results i'd say he was a very big part of the success as well)

not saying he dont need a striker who can put it away.. of course we do but when the next one rocks up at BP lets not lynch him for not scoring when he's suffering from poor man management

See I thought LJ handled The Rooney situation brilliantly. He came in, most thought he was a bit of coup, it didn't work out, an LJ protected the club. A lot of mangers would of let their ego get in the way. Ok he got his fingers burnt, but at least with Rooney you thought we might have someone who could genuinly get us 20 goals. With JCH, Philly, Carlie Mac, Poleon, I was/am hoping LJ can turn them into something. Rather than thinking we've got a bit of predigree. As I said maybe we jus have to accept that's where we're at.

Frustrating though, when you dominate games an it's just that bit of quality between finishing 15th an top 8.

He was certianly a coup and it was great work from LJ to bring him in. I just would of liked to saw him playing up top more and to of recieved a financial return on him or an undisclosed fee as we call it at Latics

Call me optimistic but I'd be interested to hear how we do tomorrow and Saturday with our front 3. I could see Danny P dropping deeper and Forte and Poleon playing more advanced to catch both teams on the break.

While it would be hard to call that front 3 prolific they all offer a threat in some way and can be used in different ways. With the way the rest of the team is set up and Wilkinson as a different option from the bench, I'm happy enough with that for now.

How many times have we signed a striker, or on loan, and they turned into a donkey. Countless times, and as with Feeney and Rooney, it just may not work out. A massive risk.

Easy in hindsight of course.

I think a loanee is less of risk, but less likely to succeed.

If, as it seems we get Ewbanks-Blake I reckon we will have a player who knows where the net is and can hold up play at the front for players like Poleon, Wilkinson and Philly which also means our midfielders have more options to press forward and have a crack for goal. I really think we have a chance if we have at least and addition who has muscle up front will make a hell of a difference. Some of them at the moment need to get more confidence in having a go and being a little more greedy. Onwards and upwards under a good manager like L.J. I also think our captain is now beginning to show his promise which L.J. mentioned on his signing.

Even harder to keep players you have worked hard on bringing in and happy to be on £1,000 a week and then splash £2,000 a week on a striker...even worse if said striker doesn't start scoring off the bat!

The minute lower paid players on £1,000 start getting good feedback off the manager and the fans they are knocking on the door wanting £2,000 a week and probably hear the word no... then morale and performance dip!

Tough One.

Now Now. None of that thinking - it's all about players in isolation!

surely improving someone's contract doesn't affect our 100k transfer budget... maybe we'd have to up his wage (most probably) but not to the sound of 100k! so a transfer and a new contract offer please

That's the exact opposite of what we're saying, following O4U's point.

If Winchester were to get a 1 year deal at £2,000 a week that would use up MORE than £100,000. People really underestimate the cost of these things, don't they!?

I just think a well organised, average 9 players, behind two decent-ish strikers an you'll do very well in this league.

I can't get my head around why he seems to bemoan how we can't kill games- or take our chances- Why didn't he rectify it over the summer? It's not a new problem we've got.

If Forte plays on the left, an poleon an philly start up front? Who've we got after that? The young lads. . . It's a lot to ask. Yet in defence an midfield we seem to have loads of options? Last season we had four strikers- this season we have two. (If Forte plays on left- which he will.)

The most frustrating thing is, I think we are two short up front from being very decent. Sadly we now relying on youth loans, an the like. Shame.

i get that, but i presumed a manager would have his wage budget, then a transfer budget
