NewBlue
That's 6 league matches since we last scored a goal from open play (Forte at home to Orient). Are we struggling to create anything more than a half chance, or are we just squandering loads of clear cut opportunities?
bluehobbit
We often don't have enough bodies in the box to cause problems. Dayton put in 3 great crosses against Gillingham but no one got on the end of em. One went all the way to the back post but Winchester was to deep to attack it. If he had been in the box its One nill latics and this happens a lot (not Winchesters fault all the time) Our movement in the box from open play is pretty awful no one ever runs across the near post.... but we are starting to turn a corner I think. All of a sudden we are compact and difficult to breakdown and if we can just start finding the net we are going to rack up wins

beag_teeets
With two extra points for goals from extra play I am extremely worried.

rudemedic
Eh do goals from open play count for more or something? Stop looking for negatives. Oh right I forgot the OWTB rule that penalties don't count, therefore, it can be deferred neither do goals from "set-pieces".
NewBlue
Eh do goals from open play count for more or something? Stop looking for negatives. Oh right I forgot the OWTB rule that penalties don't count, therefore, it can be deferred neither do goals from "set-pieces". I don't see it as searching for negatives. It's a relevant fact after we couldn't break down a very defensive minded Gillingham side, and have a low scoring record at home. It counts the same of course, but I'd rather we didn't have to rely on them because they'll come up against sides that can defend a set piece, then what? If the manager didn't think this was something to work on I doubt he'd be so intent on signing a striker.
unsworthlatic
James Dayton's goal was from open play on Tuesday, came initially from free kick but still in open play when he scored. We're 13th in the league, solid at the back and 5 games unbeaten, let's look at the positives
IceStationLatic
In recent seasons we haven't been able to score much from set-plays and conceded a lot of goals from them.. Look at the difference in the table. I like how some Swindon fans criticised is for not being that good, players playing above their ability if you like. How often have we though that playing dull, nothing special teams and yet we lose 1-0 to a defensive error and they're pushing the play-offs while we're at the bottom...
