Dave Seville

Lovely, genuine gentle guy!!

I played football with him at Hopwood Hall every Monday night.

Will be very sadly missed.

I will definately join in with a minutes applause tomorrow.

RIP Dave - and massive condolances to his family.

I've known Dave for many years and I spoke to him at the last home game. He had a dry sense of humour and he was as great a bloke as you could hope to meet. At half-time he always stood above the stairwell leading from the Chaddy towards where the betting office used to be, together with his mates, including OWTB Members dave_ragg1984 and boundaryblue80.

He was at my birthday celebration last year and I am very thankful and honoured to have been able to call him my friend. He will be greatly missed, and Mrs Sideburns and I will be joining in the applause tomorrow..

In the interest of helping people to identify him, I'm posting a link to a site of very special significance to his family, in which Dave can be seen in the fourth picture after those at the top of the page.http://joshuaseville.com/tributes/

R.I.P. Dave.

Dave was a great bloke. Top Latics fan and top friend.

Was shocked when I heard the news earlier this week.

Its going to take some getting used to, going in WH before the game and not being able to have a pint with him, or going over to chat to the lads at HT and Sev not being there. He will be missed massively.

Thoughts are with his wife and family.

R.I.P. Dave.

Thanks for that link Terry, he sounded like one of those guys you've seen a thousand times and maybe talked a bit of bollocks with in the pie queue or random pub, and so it is with me. Part of the Latics family, I hope his closest enjoy their celebration, and also don't take anything bad from it that some folk just won't be aware of it

I read this news last night on here. Thanks to those who posted.

I can't say I knew Dave other than to say hello to, but he's of a similar generation of fans to my dad and knew him much better. They'd always say hello and catch up with each other when they saw one another at games having been on many a booze bus together for many, many years. They also played 5 a side at the Clayton Arms back in the 90s on a weekly basis (I imagine porkpie_blue above is referring to exactly the same group of lads!).

I sent the link to this page to my dad this morning who replied "Awful news. Such a nice, humble bloke."

Best wishes to those closest to him. We'll be thinking of you today.

The minutes applause went really well and was a fitting tribute to a top bloke. It was also a lovely touch from Lee Johnson to present Carol with a bunch of flowers before the game. It's times like this it makes you proud to be a Latics fan.

I am also proud to have had a mate in Dave for many years.I'm really going to miss sharing a pre match and post match drink every home game, the away trips, his dry sense of humour and his company in general. My thoughts are with Carol and his family.

RIP Dave, you'll never be forgotten.

I’ve heard from Frankfurt that next weekend, Dave will be included in a toast and a moment of silence & memoriam, together with the (all too many) Latics/Eintracht community good friends, who now follow our activities from the ‘big main stand’.

Dave is in the centre, looking sideways, when meeting up with the Eintracht fans in Newport, before Latics played at Cardiff in the F.A. Cup in 1998. The lad in the white shirt is Clemens Vesely, who died in January.

From the Chron:

On his way to the cemetery yesterday, Dave was driven the length of Sheepfoot Lane and Furtherwood Road, and as Dave and the mourners passed BP, all the staff lined the roadside and applauded. It was a moving gesture that once again sets the Club apart from the rest.

Sad to have to say I knew both Daves reasonably well,Dave Seville through Latics and having both gone to the same gym 30 odd years ago.We also had kids on special care at the same time and it was touching to hear Carol today talk about Dave being re-united with Joshua which has given the family some strength.

Knew Dave Casey through Latics, Cricket bands and general socialising, not to mention a lot of mutual friends as also was the case with Dave Sev.

The Barnsley win was for both of them on the night!
