I live in Saddleworth and it definitely says Greater Manchester on my address.

To be fair there is a great big 'Welcome to Yorkshire' sign on the border of Springhead as your go round the blind corner past the Red Lion in Lees.

This would put me in Yorkshire but I am in denial so I just ignore it.

Isn't it a 'historic boundary' sign. It is at Grains Bar.

The song was sang to try and get them to react. Most knew we weren't in Yorkshire but it's close enough to be classed as Yorkshire and Blackpool fans a while a go got a reaction from them by singing about them being from Yorkshire. Hardly the end of the world regarding what was sang, it was just done as I have said previously to provoke a reaction

Being in Greater Manchester doesn't change the fact that Saddleworth is in West Yorkshire.Gm is an administrative region not a county!

Not been in Yorkshire since 1972 - you may not like it, you may be in complete denial, you may post a million times that it is in Yorkshire but it is not

FACT :coffee1:

I did not like it when 'we' (thankfully living half a mile west of the county end border post) lost our Lancashire title but 1972 was a long time ago and facts are facts despite our wishes and desires.

Quite right. I understand sentimental attachments to old counties, but, let's face it, it's all based on very little. County borders are not some alternative for national identity. They were drawn up for administrative purposes. They followed natural features like rivers and hills. They were re-drawn also for admin reasons. The world moved on (200 years ago) and the 'new' borders reflect those demographic changes.

One day (soon) we'll have no one who remembers or cares about the old borders/attachments. Before then, we'll have a devolved assembly for Greater Manchester......

My Mum campaigned to keep Saddleworth in Yorkshire, mainly because Oldham would milk Saddeleworth for the money. History does give some credence to that argument.

Depsite that, I was born in Oldham Hopsital because I needed specialist care by a certain Dr Steptoe. and it was determined (it was February) it would be too treacherous a potential journey over to Huddersfield which my Mum wanted to do anyway.

I am old enougfh to remember the chairs at Diggle School having W.R.C.C on the back.
