Face facts! Most of the potential supporters have faced 10 years of declining living standards and can watch premier league in the comfort of their own home or the pub. What goes first sky or live football?

It is those of us who go that will have most impact on building the crowd by telling people how good it now is and encouraging them to go.

A special offer for the Yeovil match may be an idea, December 13th being the last home game pre Christmas, which traditionally brings a lower gate.

Completely agree. Id even look at The Crawley and Yeovil games. But definitely the Yeovil game.

Id look at doing something like this. An adult costs a fiver with a paying child.

An adult and a child for £15 is a good deal. Advertise it early.

Reading these comments about the attendance, if the success continues then are we not in the future going to have a problem accommodating home fans? I was in The Chaddy yesterday and there was very little room-mainstand looked to be full so when a team like Sheff Utd come to the ground and we give them all the Rochdale Rd stand where are you gonna sit our fans? Do the police govern who gets the Rochdale Rd on safety grounds and over rule the clubs demands?

We're building a new stand?

Sky :laught16: ? We haven't even got a tele. And still manage a 200 mile round trip to home matches. The main problem is, that most football watchers in Oldham choose to watch City or United, and not their local team. But there is a real buzz about the place, and we WILL get to where we want to be, slowly but surely. :OASISscarf:

Just posted this on the other site in response to a similar topic.....

A lot of our older fans will no longer be fit enough to attend and unfortunately a lot more will no longer be with us. It's the youth in the town we have to tap in to as without them the club has no future. We have been in decline for 20 years and and a whole generation of young Oldham fans have been lost to the big clubs down the road and live Footie on Sky and now BT.

We have to make it more attractive for youngsters to attend games and preferably start now where we now have an entertaining product out on the pitch. Promotions and innitiatives are never going to reap long term rewards whilst we offer them during bad times and relegation battles.

We have a new stand and have advertised for a commercial director to help maximise match day income... NOW is the time to do something drastic and innovative, strike while the iron's hot as the saying goes!

People saying crowds are fiddled how? Every person that walks through a turnstile is clicked and recorded.

Fingers cross it will never happen but if there was another Bradford or hillsborough disaster surly the first thing the police would want to know or club is how many people are in the ground.

Can you really Imagine them saying there is more or less than what there is if it ment people being accounted for.

Don't forget if the attendances were being fiddled and someone found out Neil Joy could go to prison on tax evasion. I would also imagine clubs have to be audited on things like this, it's highly unlikely that this is being fiddled.

Agreed.....however, based on yesterday's crowd figure, the whole of the Bradford contingent could have been accommodated in the Chaddy and Mainstand and there would still have been room for about 200 more!

Chaddy cap. 3754

M/Stand Cap. 2300

putting an offer on for the games against Crawley & Yeovil will increase the gates for those two games and have very little effect on future attendances, as said above if the football and results continue as they have been doing the attendances will increase

always messing with the figures, not sure why but the attendance is never 100% factual

Its a :censored:ing fiddle if half them seats in that ground where empty then im the King of England makes us look :censored:in tinpot, dont moan about the crowd when your cooking the :censored:in books.

I quote from information posted previously on here by:

oafcprozac:

We've done this one until the cows come home, it all came to a head during the Summer of Hell, when City came over for a friendly, the attendance was widely questioned that day too from within the JK Latics regulars. To counter this Alan Hardy offered 3 fans the chance to openly observe how the attendance for matches at BP is compiled. (I was one of the three, Mike Stott being one of the others) The system is fully computerised with monitors showing how the ground is filling in the boardroom, the Police control box and in the office at the back of the Lookers Stand, all turnstiles have CCTV so no-one can drop the gateman a dodgy tenner and vault the turnstile etc... The figure given normally includes all complimenteries and the Corporates and sponsors etc... often there is a marginal difference in the final figure but usually nothing too drastic. The club has to withold a small percentage of its capacity due to FL rules and as stipulated in its Safety Certificate granted on an annual basis by the Local Authority, GMP & GMF&RS, possibly around 3%, it was 4 years ago so that figure may or may not be right, email AH he will clarify) If the club was found guilty of any wrong doing then its safety certificate would be revoked and immediate suspension from the Football League would follow. In a nutshell, manipulating the attendance is nigh on impossible at BP.

and

Harry Dowds Green Shirt:

It is nigh on impossible for the club to fiddle the gate. If they did, with the Police in attendance at each and every game and monitoring their crowd control screens, any discrepancy would be picked up and the club would be on a charge for each and every act of fraud.

Unless it is an all ticket game with reserved seating the club has to reduce capacity where it is using unreserved seating by 10% to comply with the conditions of the safety certificate, so in every stand bar the main stand upper, capacity is cut by 10%. Chaddy end 350, NSM Upper 140, NSM lower 120, Main Paddock 90

.This was back in December 2007, coincidentally when Latics were on an 11 game unbeaten run.

There are thousands now go to Oldham College, how about the club initiating a leaflet campaign at the college?

Many won't know about the £12 concession and the awareness might bring in some extra support..

About right i'd say.

Where i sit in MSP, there are usually loads of free seats for a 'standard' game where the RRE is open to home fans. My row for example is pretty sparse and has plenty of empty seats (close to pitch, no roof and away bench sometimes block your view if they stand - nothing to do with me & my mates honest!)

On games like yesterday, we usually have a few "new" faces sat in & around us (the same group week in week out).

It was the case, some 'new' faces, but - even with those deposed RRE fans coming in, there whilst it was busier than normal, it certainly wasnt full in the area i sit in.

The attendence figure seems pretty bob on to me.
