The Table

Split into two beneath Rochdale, who have a game in hand on Fleetwood below as well. Although I'm expecting a few of the stronger sides in the bottom half to come on strong a bit later into the season, the race for the playoffs at the moment is between: Latics, Preston, Bristol City, Sheffield, Rochdale, Peterborough, Swindon, Notts County and MK.

Is there anybody there that we could discount or say are certainties to make 3-6 or gain automatic, and if so, how many spaces are the fringe teams around the playoffs realistically competing for?

MK will no doubt fall apart as per. Notts County were horrendous at their place, no idea how they are there, but they keep grabbing results.

Will expect a late surge from Orient, Barnsley or Bradford. We will be lucky to be up there come May, but should our defence & midfield stay fit, we have a real chance.

I'd be very surprised to see Bristol City, Posh or Preston finish outside the top six. The rest is up for grabs, I'd say.

Maybe Notts County looked poor because we made them look poor?

I think some of us could still be underestimating how good we are.

Bristol City will be under massive pressure - their fans are awful when the slightest thing goes wrong and would I be right in thinking Cotterill doesn't seem to cope too well with pressure?

Similar with Sheff Utd and the fact they're off on a cup run again will do those of us around them no harm. Clough always huffs and puffs but ultimately blows :censored: all down.

Peterborough are hit and miss.

MK Dons will drop unless the leagues worst manager, pound for pound, finally gets this other job he "deserves".

Rochdale will finish a plucky 9th.

Preston will be top 3, as will Swindon I reckon.

I think we're certs for a play off spot and will be fighting it out with those two for automatic.

The trick is to be the form team coming in to March - May. If we can keep the big players fit keep picking up points away backed up with good win percentage at home. We will be there or there abouts in my eyes.

Look at the teams we have played this season so far not one of them has played us of the park bar maybe Orient but we was awful that game and look where they are so far this season.

Big month or so ahead of we are still in the play off area. Strengthen the squad with one or two additions come January then :censored: it I am going to stick my neck out and say bring on the play offs.

Orient played us off the park for 45 minutes and Im sure if Kelly puts that header in before halftime they would of offered nothing second half, Preston are strong and although it pains me to say it look likely Champions after that its anyones, including us some massive games at home next year if we can stay in touch till Christmas.

I mentioned on another thread that I felt that this is as strong a League One that we have seen for a good number of years.

Bristol, Preston, Sheffield United are budget-wise Championship sides. Peterborough, MK Dons, Barnsley and Bradford will have good League One budgets. I wouldn't be too surprised to see this lot competing for the Top 6.

But budgets and crowds do not guarantee success, and there will be one or two of those that fail to deliver, and a smaller unfancied team or two could sneak a birth or two in the end of season shake-up.

Our good position in the table is based on a great run and a few games in hand, so in reality we are probably 8th or 9th at this stage of the season. But the run of form over the end of the last season, and the start of this season is showing positive signs - taking 47 points from the last 30 league games. If that form can be maintained we will finish on 72 points - which would have got you 6th place twice in the last 10 seasons.

So if we can keep playing and picking up the points as we have been, we will be in with a shout for 5th or 6th spot but in all honesty are likely to need to pick up a few more wins from the draws to feel fully comfortable (which the last month has seen us do).

At the start of the season, the goal would have been Top half, ideally top 10. I still think that would be good progress, but we can but dream...
