Postman Matt
Following Barry's latest brain fart and the chatter it is caused should Barry be made to consider his position as fans rep, because it seems to me he is doing all he can to alienate himself from the fans and people of Oldham whether this is intentional or by stupidity is hard to tell. opinions4u
If the fans want change, it's in their own hands. Find a candidate. Elections aren't far off.

Postman Matt
Ok ill hold a verbal poll at Bristol City tomorrow but will 490 be enough to form an unbiased assessment?
Lags
If you get 490 votes on here I'll be surprised. Also, to be able to vote on such an issue, shouldn't there be a debate from Barry on the one hand and perhaps you on the other. If you hold the view he should stand down. ghostofcecere
I've not necessarily got a problem with him being a board member though I realise he gets that as chair of the trust, it's his title of "fans rep" that sticks in my throat. I've never met a Latics fan with opinions as far from those I hold in 30 years of supporting the club.
Postman Matt
I think Barry has unloaded enough bullets on himself don't you think over the past few years and his recent media snippets, also including his opinion on Ched Evans and the morality of signing an ex con have shown himself up further especially as he went on record to say Oldham fans were asked beforehand their opinion on signing Lee Hughes when i think nearly everyone on this forum and who i speak can categorically say they were never asked for an opinion on Lee Hughes. Barry is more than welcome to comment, but the fact he hasn't made a follow up post on his Oldham Chronicle comments on this forum, i wouldn't be holding my breath on him commenting. Lags
Perhaps the debate between the pair of you would be better served in the correct forum, a trust meeting. I believe so anyway, not on here.
Blue_Guru
My gripe at Barry wasn't the hard work and time he dedicates to the club but is the manner he talks to other fans as our representative. He sounds like he is talking from a football club owners book rather than the fan book. You can also tell from his disciplinarian approach that he used to be a copper. His comments from what I have ever seen just seem to toe the line and re-iterate the messages that come from the board rather than taking our thoughts and opinions back to the board and pushing our agenda... If you had a vote for someone to replace him it probably won't come to much because I doubt many can dedicate the time and attention that Barry can afford as a retired police officer. Chaddy_Ender
Why a debate he is the voice of the fans isnt he ? Surely he understands that if he is seen to be representing the clubs view and not the fans he is there to represent it is going to prove unpopular ? There is no doubt he has become an important part of the team in the day to day running of the club and for that he should be applauded but my personal view is that his role as fans rep should be brought to an end as he is clearly now a club spokesperson and doesnt represent the fans as he should. Beyond a monthly board meeting, what is the true time requirement as "our" voice on the board? It doesn't need to be a 30 hour a week job wearing a sports blazer at Boundary Park, does it? Lags
Why a debate? purely so every aspect of what Barry does do, should do is open and clear. Then everyone will know the facts and a vote then would be a fair result.
Postman Matt
Can i just ask when was the last time he asked the fans for an opinion aside from the meet the manager days? Does he hold a regular meeting with said fans to offer new ideas to the board as the voice of the fans? This isn't a witch hunt as implied i just believe his role at the club now conflicts his original posting as fans rep so therefore somebody who is able to interact with fans and the media correctly should be put in place. Stevie_J
The man's role is to represent fans; at least that is how I see his role and I'm sure that was how it was sold to the fans years ago, although Barry has argued in the past that this is not the primary function of his role. Whilst he continues to point the finger publicly at those fans - and we're talking over a number of years and a number of issues - then he really puts himself out there for this sort of criticism. oafc_lover
Can we take this down. A witch hunt on a forum is snidey and a little immature imo. If you want him out, find a better candidate and have a proper debate face to face. Not behind a keyboard and a username.

Postman Matt
This isn't a witch hunt as people keep implying its merely pointing a role given to a person via vote (demoracy) is not being fulfilled in the best manner and therefore just like in politics change is needed if there is an election due soon then ill gladly put myself forward as the fans voice, as the role of fans rep should be that and that alone. Lags
Just to make it clear. I've always said that the chair position vote needed amending to make it a more democratic process. However, the point for me is this, this is a clear witch hunt. Without a debate and a process in which to hold a fair balanced vote, it will always be a witch hunt and nothing more
