oafc1955
In the Chron that Johnson will listen to offers to get him out playing again. There has been a bit of interest to take him on loan but says if he were to go somewhere that would be him for the season as he wouldn't be able to play for another club after that. Am I reading this right in that Mellor could be available for transfer in January if he get's any offers.
Break The Silence
Can't see there being too many offers for him if he can't get anywhere near our first team.
4froale
I was surprised that we gave him a deal in the summer, not so surprised that he looks to be leaving. Cant work out this lad, I really cant, the potential is their, but how can a professional footballer complain that he mentally cant run? beag_teeets
He only did that once, I regularly get that when I play football but that might be more to do with my physique. Mellor needs a run of games, he has attributes but you don't learn much from the bench. I'd like to see him go out on long term loan in div 4 and get the experience he desperately needs. Leaves us short at left back but Truelove can't be too far off now.
oafc1955
There is definitely a player in there somewhere but I think a lack of natural fitness is holding him back. A move to a 2nd div club and a new start could be what he needs but the fitness issue needs sorting or he'll never make it in the game. al_bro
As Jones was ill on Saturday I'm surprised that Mellor didn't replace him. Obviously LJ trusts a sick Jones on the pitch over a fit Mellor(that is unless Mellor was also sick).
GlossopLatic
He needs to be playing regular competitive football ideally league 2 if not the conference that will be the best thing to boost his fitness. He's at a stage in his career where he needs more than regular reserve team football he needs a sustained period out on loan. Im surprised he came back if truth be told I thought he should have stayed at alfreton until Christmas at least. Get him out on loan until the end of the season with an emergency recall, then make a decision on if we need him in May.

He will be on peanuts salary wise so worth the extra year to see if the potential transfers to performances. Winchester got a year when most prob thought he wouldn't and that gamble paid off. Aarondo Westy
Should of flogged him to Fulham few year ago
bigfatjoe1
I don't even know what his position is on the pitch. Left back, left wing, central midfield, centreback? He's equally average in all of them. Lack of an engine is quite a basic flaw for any professional sports person. Lack of an edge is another. Add to that a basic level of talent. That's the reality. Lags
Simon Corney is again recently on record he thinks Mellor is a very good player. There you go. Far from me to add also a family member to good friend of both Corney and the club.
Postman Matt
Even Alex Ferguson f*cked his own son off can't let ties and father-laws friends to allow a wage to be taken that could be used better to improve the team been in and around ther first for 4/5 years now and never cemented a starting place that says it all to me. MAC0AFC
he's family member to a a good friend of corney and the club... what a load of rubbish. he's got a kid to Paul Whiteheads daughter but that has no effect on what the manager thinks of a player, if a manager wants a certain player in his budget it is his decision not the chairmans! i think he's a decent player, like many have said when he played CM for the last 8/9 games under johnson in his first season he showed real promise but he now needs week in week out game time which we can't afford to give him, a league two club on loan until the end of the season would be ideal! and then weigh up wether he's worth keeping in the team or not - hopefully we'll be championship and looking for far more luxurious players though. oafcprozac
Come on lags Corney would sell his own granny if he could make money out of it. Young Dave is here on footballing ability alone for whatever reason his face doesnt seem to fit with the manager that's football but he's here because THE manager wanted him here in the summer but like so many of our home grown players they get pushed aside without being able to get a run of games in their PREFERRED position. Winchester will be moving closer and closer to the exit door too Mark my words. I rate both but I'm only a fan LJ stands snd falls by his decisions let's see how manoeuvring young Carl out of team in favour of yet another loanee works out. Mellor will come back to bite us on the arse I'm of little doubt
oafcprozac
Yep his performances in centre mid were a big reason why we stayed up in 12/13 hes no less mobile than kelly and might not give away as many free kicks. His one and only chance in a league game in centre mid since was at Rotherham ok he stupidly got himself sent off but so did Kusunga a couple of times last season but he got another chance did Mellor? Then the diabolical team performance v Boro in the worthless. Mellor gets hooked never to be seen again. Criticise the lad when he's played 25-30 games on the trot in centre mid how many wrote Winchester off???? deyres42
A young, technically sound, sweet left footed midfielder - he should be worth his weight in gold to us or someone else. Must be down to application/desire that he isn't.
Stevie_J
I don't really get why so many people still rate him.

JA11K
I always thought Tarkowski and Winchester had that little bit extra of ability which would see them establish themselves in our side. I've never really gotten that impression with Mellor.

LaticsPete
Mellor has and still does divide opinion. There is obviously something there - managers keep trying him - but he has never seized the opportunity and, by the strength / quality of a display , say that he must be a starter for a run. For me , he'll go the way of several others who there was great hope for as kids but who never pulled up trees here or elsewhere. He'll go....and I doubt that such a decision by the club will come back to haunt us.
Simoncorneyisgod
Best thing I take out of this is that if he is loaned to another club that's it for the season!........where does that leave our new arrival this week? Surely he can only go permanently or stay at latics?
mcgoo_84
Yes he needs games if he's to make a career for himself but with us? No thanks. Better left back than Mills? No More effective than Forte on the left of midfield? No Better at CM than Jones, Kelly or Winchester? No If he was to get that run of 25-30 games with us we'd have gone backwards from where we are now.
