Is tomorrow a must win?

Recommended Posts

....well maybe not but I really think we need to make a statement tomorrow and/or next week at Dale.

LJ has put together a squad that is very hard to beat BUT can we win enough games to really push for the play-offs?

It's time for the team to push on and show this is the real thing!

Nope. No must wins until at least after Easter.

Actually, I'll add that I would rather the team hover between 10th and 6th until about Easter. I think 1st and 2nd are gone although I could be wrong but I don't think we are a top 2 side yet, if we are to get promoted it would be via the play offs and I would rather go into them in form rather than clinging on to 6th spot from new year onwards.

Besides, I don't want teams coming to BP thinking they are playing one of the top sides and setting up defensively, I'd rather watch football between two sides going for a win, if we're outside the top 6 then the viewing will be better.

We've been outside the top six for years and the viewing has been :censored:ing :censored:!

Bang on the money

We don't need to make a lot of noise before Christmas it's about staying in contention and timing our gallop to the line.

The key to getting promotion out of this division is endurance the team that can keep fresh the longest and not run out of steam. Picking up a win tomorrow would help mind if we were to lose the next 2 it would mean we have to play catch up but it wouldn't be a disaster.

A win would be a massive statement of intent. I'll hazard a guess that pundits and fans of other teams are looking at us right now and thinking "They're only Oldham, they'll drop back down the table soon and finish in the bottom half". A win at the "mighty" Sheffield United tomorrow might make a few more people take note.

I think we're more likely to get a win tomorrow than at Rochdale. But like you say, the win at Sheff U would be a bigger win from the outside. A win at Spotland would be seen as a decent result, but not get much attention, when it'll probably take a much better performance to come back with a result.

To be fair I'm sure the same people are thinking the same thing about Rochdale. Whereas Sheff Utd are expected to be in the top 6 in May

I would take four points and progression to the next round of the JPT out of the next three games.

I don't want to rip up trees, but if we can keep the unbeaten run going whilst staying close to the top six then I will be happy.

Unbeaten run?

Bloody hell, id rip your hand off for 2 wins and a draw from our next 3

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, these next 3 are possibly the 3 toughest we will have all season

We could easily look at it next Sunday and have nothing, or just as easily have won all 3, it's one of those seasons where I'm not surprised by anything!

As said nothing is a must win at this stage of the season.

But games against teams that you expect to be competing for the Top 6 places are always a little more important. Not a happy hunting ground overall (though last few seasons have been OK) so not expecting anything from it, but hoping that we can get something.

As they say a 'result' in each of the next three games would be massive. However you could add the FA cup tie against Donny to the list because a 3rd round away tie with loads of dosh would give LJ another chance to strengthen the squad for the run in.

We were on a nice little run until Bristol City ended it.

We could do with going on another one again if we're serious about a promotion push this season.

Might have to start that run going after the next 2 league games though, 2 toughies; people shouldnt underestimate 'Dale next week and today with be no cake walk at their place.

Anything gained from these next 2 will again set a real marker for us as a side going forwards.

....exactly the result i suspected!! we are becoming the draw specialists which won't get us in the playoffs but is still pretty impressive compared to where we have been last few seasons....massive credit to LJ

However, we need to win a few games so next week it has to be 3 points or we are going to see the tail lights of Swindon, Sheff U, MK franchise etc disappear.
