Tranmere 6 points from safety of retaining league status

Recommended Posts

Remembering Prenton Park used to be one of the biggest away ties for many years, and the games with plastic Scousers were always competitive, their demise after last season's relegation surprises me. Any particular reasons, such as money problem, change of ownership, or they just hit a bad patch and will pull away from the trap door?

I think once you get sucked in and detached at th bottom it's tremendously difficult to pull away from as history mostly proves. I have a little sympathy for them as it could have been us had we gone down at any point in the last few years. Looks like they've really cut back their cloth and the power struggle with owners hasn't helped, clearly.

Could easily be another Stockport, sadly.

Free-fall after a disastrous chain of events from the looks of it. They were top of League 1 in the new year then went on a rotten run of form and spurned even the play-offs, that must have mentally carried into their relegation season, which was further rocked by the match-fixing allegations then dismissal of Ronnie Moore and a few of their players, then they appointed a new guy as manager for the current season, a total rookie who struggled badly and was sacked. Meanwhile they've had a change of ownership, Mark Palios the ex-FA CEO. Maybe that will give them a bit of stability.

But for now it's all a bit calamitous at Prenton Park (yet they're still getting better crowds than us...).

Brian Talbot, February 19 2005: "In hindsight it would have been better for me personally if we had been relegated last year, because I wouldn't have got the blame and I would have had a season to rebuild."

I wonder where we'd be now if we had got relegated 10 years ago!

I think that if Latics had got relegated / did get relegated from League One it would be something we could take years to recover from (if at all).

The difference between the bottom half of League One and League two is minimal. I think this is evidenced by the number of teams that come up and continue to do well, and the number of teams that get relegated and continue to struggle.

I think there is a very strong argument to return to the regionalised North/South setup. Think that the quality would on balance be the same with the benefit of more local derbies / less travel costs / bigger crowds.
