Good to see

Genuinely nice to see no hard feelings on PD's part.

He tried his best with us but couldn't do it in the end. I think Johnson is showing us what we had wanted/envisaged seeing under him, certainly his first season getting to 4th place by February with some good football along the way, shouldn't be forgotten; as much as the Liverpool game and the few decent players he managed to attract to us be it loan or permanent.

Certainly deserves a round of applause and maybe a nice chant or two - his genuine delight in the Everton game showed he cared.

Paul Dickov insists there will be no hard feelings on his part when he returns to Oldham as a manager for the first time tomorrow.

The Scot left the Latics in February last year after guiding them to a famous FA Cup win over Liverpool.

This weekend Dickov hopes to guide Doncaster into the third round of the same competition at the expense of his former club, who he says he will always be grateful to for handing him his first job in management.

“I came to a decision that I’d probably taken the club as far as I could,” said Dickov, reflecting on his Oldham tenure.

“I’d been there two and a half years and I’ll be forever grateful to them for giving me my first chance in management.

“It was a tough job, but it was good job for me as well.

“There were certain things going on that I wasn’t happy with and I decided it was the right time to get out, but I’ve got no hard feelings towards anyone at that club.

“I still speak to the chairman there, Simon Corney, and I’m good friends with him. When I sat down with him and decided it was time to go, it was done on good terms.”

Asked whether he was expecting a good reception from Oldham fans, Dickov said: “Who knows? I would like to think so.

“I thought I did a reasonable job there considering the circumstances I was working under. I always had a good relationship with the fans there. They’re a good set of fans.

“They’re a patient bunch. They stick by the team. There’s definitely no hard feelings from me towards them and I don’t think there will be the other way round either.”

'He'd taken us as far as he could' WTF!!!

What's different from PD's time to now???

What circumstances was he under that LJ isn't?

We were/are a small prudently run 3rd division club.

It sticks in the throat that he can't just say I learnt a lot, an it didn't work out for me.

You didn't do us a favour Paul. You got sacked.

FA Cup aside- the football the season he got sacked was as bad as it got for me.

He had taken us as far as he could, coz he's a limited manager!

I have no Ill feelings towards him at all, he's a nice bloke. I was just amazed how he walked into a championship job.

Probably because he was a bit of a media darling and mates with the chairman.

Just watched the full interview.

The interviewer mentions how he has spoken to a few of our former managers who have all commented on how the expectation from the fans at Oldham is very high and it makes things difficult for managers.

Dickov goes on to say it's probably because of the success Joe Royle had with us etc etc and he feels "a bit of realism from the fans" and we could do big things.

Strange one that I have to say as I wouldn't say we EXPECT big things? We just live in hope that big things will return to our club.

How many seasons has he been a manager now, whats his highest finishing position as a manager, all fans have expectations most of our fans would be happy with 8-10th in League 1, but even that was beyond him, for me he has proved to be a poor manager a trend he has carried on at the Keepmoat, no real problem with the guy but his managerial record if Im being nice about it is poor.

I don't expect big things, but I expect that the players put the effort in and the manager shows he wants to win. Problem with Dickov is that there were far too many half-arsed performances. If any fans are going to have 'a bit of realism', then surely the ones who support the club who've been in the same division for 18 years are realistic with expectations?

Just to add to your debate Dickov is an absolutely crap manager but he does a good interview after we have lost,he got us relegated from the championship on his own,as it turned out we only needed one more point in the last seven games and he couldn't manage that. When Dickov took over someone from this forum came on the viking chat forum and listed everything about Dickov and what would happen, can i just tell you whoever it was got it all absolutely right saying he had favourate players and played them whatever happened,If you are unsure about Dickovs managerial abilities just ask yourself would you have him back now?So today most Donny fans want him out and hope that you win today sorry but its the only way we can see that is going to get the idiot out of the club.heres hoping we get rid of the three stooges (Dickov,Horton and Butler)sooner rather than later

I think you know the answer to whether we would have him back. After the game at yours earlier this season I spoke to a few Doncaster fans, we all agreed that he was limited as a manager, I think the only way you can progress as a team is to relieve him of his duties, I have to disagree about the fact you want us to win today, as a fan of Oldham I would never want that of my team but I understand your reasons. Does Butler still have his clipboard?

Butler still does have his clipboard but the only thing on it will be the sandwich lisT for the players,Horton goes to matches but nobody can work out what he does,as for dickov he hasn't got a clue,he has brought in an attacking coach in shaun goater i always thought that Dickov was an attacker so don't know what Dickov does appart from spout the same old :censored: in interviews.

Fair do's, I still sometimes think that the new stand was initially built from the run we had when we beat Liverpool...

If you didn't sack Dickov or he decided to leave whichever one is true i doubt you would have got a new stand as you would be in league 2 a fate awaiting Donny either this season or next.

my quote was a bit tongue and cheek Donny, my next post highlights our win when our chairman booted PD :censored: back room team out and promoted our youth and reserve team manager for the Liverpool game.

was butler part of that :censored: backroom team?Interesting to see that you seem to be blaming Dickovs :censored: backroom team rather than him,how much blame for you being near the bottom of the league would you put on Dickov.

I think the back room team being sacked in December whereas Dickov survived in to February affects the way people view things.

The first event was, almost certainly, an effort to get Dickov to resign without a payoff. Butler took a lot of stick because he seemed to be qualified as a fitness coach but was doing a lot of the tactical stuff pitch side - and it wasn't working. In truth, the whole lot of them, including Dickov, should have been out of the door long before December.

Tony Philliskirk deserves a lot of credit for turning a Matt Smith from a failing lump into an effective striker just in time to defeat Forest and Liverpool and take Everton to a replay.

I suppose we shouldn't forget Gerry Taggert - didn't seem to do much but one of his training ground contributions was the looping header at the far post. Simpson at Forest and Wabara v Liverpool spring to mind.

Butler is doing that job now and it still isn't working,Dickov doesn't seem to learn from his mistakes he puts his faith in poor players,we were trying to survive in the championship with players like wabaara and furman playing regularly i.e..dickovs favourites
