Squad post January transfer window.

Recommended Posts

It's a reasonable assumption that the squad will have to be trimmed in January so put yourself in SC/LJ's shoes........who would you put on the list in the hope of keeping a winning team with the rest?

Let's say 4 players....2 Senior and 2 others.

I'll go with Big George, Dayton, Poleon and Winchester.

Ibhere won't be extended or replaced. Bove will sit on the bench occasionally.

James Wilson will be sold for a fee and won't be replaced. Connor Brown will return to the squad.

Johnson's loan will be extended to the end of the season. We'll make the play-offs and he won't be available for them. We'll lose 8-0 on aggregate to MK Dons.

J Wilson to definitely leave. Winchester and Dayton on the list. Ibehre and Tidser loans ended. Johnson to extend loan to end of May. Wilkinson on loan to end of May. Promotion...

Corney said a couple of months back that we didn't necessarily need a big FA cup run.

He also said the new sponsorship deal takes us up a rung in terms of competing in this division.

What's changed?

2 months and our own league position. 2 months ago we were looking a good bet for top 10, now we are in the play-off hunt, the subtle differences mean SC wants to be able to give LJ a bit more money.

That and we haven't had a big home game for a while. Our next is likely to be early January.

Think the shape of the squad come February will tell us whether or not Corney is interested in getting promoted.

Think that this statement is very harsh on SC.

No matter how much the club and board want to support LJ and the team to maintain a shot at promotion - it will only be just that, a shot. Sustainable finances are absolutely imperative to the club being able to have a shot next season, and the season after that if this season is unsuccessful.

Seeing teams over stretch, fail and then go down the plug-hole is something that is a very real. I don't want Latics to follow suit.

I think he said it would be good to get to Wembley in the JPT, with the FA Cup as an afterthought. Once the JPT opportunity went west, we still had a reasonable chance of progressing in the FA Cup. Going out of both will undoubtedly hit us hard, regardless of this sponsorship deal.

If we can get £500k for James Wilson and Winchester, I'd understand if we took that. After that, if anyone can take Dayton off our hands their welcome to him and we'll lose Jabo.

Regarding Corney being interested in promotion - he can only spend what FFP rules allow..

Maybe harsh, but I think it is valid.

The players and management have got themselves into a cracking position to have a right good go at it in the second half of the season - if we come up short then fair enough but I don't think Corney will be forgiven if it is allowed to just peter out because of finances.

Obviously, going out of the FA Cup was disappointing, but I thought today's Chron article was almost over-the-top in its negativity. I hope non of the players read it, they'll think the season's done.

Its the fans I'm concerned about thinking of it negatively, and if we do drop down the league it could lead to further disillusionment and drop in season tickets sales.

Whilst I understand it's all a balancing act, and we have to sell to survive, it'll just seem such a shame that now we have a built up a bit of momentum in the league, sniffed around the fringes of the play-offs then the sale of a couple of key players is likely to scupper things.

Why is everyone wanting to sell our best players? We all know its going to happen but what I don't understand why people are saying they want to sell. By selling James Wilson, Winchester and not renuing Jabo's loan its ripping the promise out of our team.

Wilson is the heart and backbone of the defence and at the back end of the last season made Lockwood(as good as he is) look even better with the mopping up he did. Winchester has 65-70 minutes of hand graft and relentless running up the right hand side with the occasional brilliance one or twice a game. Jabo gives us another option rather than passing up the pitch we can play a long ball and he'll holds it up. If we let all of them go and don't replace them properly with the same quality or better we can say goodbye to the playoffs.

However I accept that we will eventually sell but for me the must keep list is; J Wilson, Elokobi, Winchester, Jabo and Forte but all these could go. I think it would be a risk for a club to take on both Elokobi and Forte because of their age and injury problems.

If we do need to sell I wouldn't be bothered to see the likes of Tisder go back with Dayton and Brown going.

It's was a good way of killing off any feel good factor still at the club after the two cup defeats that's for sure...another PR blip if you ask me

We should be communicating positivity at every opportunity encouraging more fans to come and see a team that is on the up an punching above their weight... a casual fan reading this probably wouldn't be compelled to visit more often because SC seems to suggest the momentum won't last because of 2 cup defeats

Last season we needed to pull our tripe out to stay up, this season we are over achieving and any talk of promotion, missing out on promotion, ambition or lack of is misplaced.

A top ten finish would be an amazing end to the season, any toys being thrown out of the pram if players are sold are a nonsense. If it means that much to you then stump up more cash, it is the only way to help us keep the squad together so we can continue the progression next season.

Where has this assumption come from that the squad will be broke up in January. Yes I get the loss in the FA cup will cost us financially but not to the extent where we are on the verge of bankrupcy.

The worse case scenario is that we will lose one or two of our loan players apart from that we will be fine.

I'm a big fan of James Wilson but as far I know he hasn't attracted the attention of bigger clubs yet.

Don't forget we mad a profit in transfers of £500k in August which will cover a substantial amount of the losses.

We only need 6500 to break even which if we are challenging around March April May is not unrealistic. Plus an extended season will be a nice little earner

Also my understanding is playershare are sanctioning a second signing in January is this still a possibility?

Sounds like we've taken on players that we only had a chance of keeping if we did well enough in cups and payed them with the winnings. Our gates don't generate enough cash to pay the likes of Elokobi, Forte, Kenny etc. (I assume Villa are paying Johnson's wages). Good ol' financial fair play.

Well the long term aim of the FFP system is to do away with actually playing the game at league level.

Each year at the end of July they will issue tables based on the financial clowt of each club.

They can then dish the champions medals out the following week and go straight into the play off games by the end of August etc

This will then enable international matches to start in September for the qualifying stages of world cups or European championship etc.

through until April time . After this there will a major cup competition every year during the summer on a rotational basis ie - world cups finals / European championships / African cup of nations and i understand they have already organised another world tournament to fit into the fourth year.

Clubs with players not involved in these matches will be invited to join a friendly league and organise cup matches etc when they can wheel and deal before the financial status is re calculated in July.

Hopefully all this will be in place sooner rather than later so that hopefully Septic Bladder the FIFA despot can realise his dream of only playing international matches before taking his place on the left side of god !!!!!!!!

It's all mind games! We say this all the time we don't have a decent budget yet bring in forte elokobi Kelly kenny jones these are championship players! We have the chance of promotion and not long had a massive sponsorship in there is no way we will struggle. We may sell/ mutual termination the squad players dayton, brown, Winchester, Mellor, bove, truelove send back jabo and tidser, possibly loan out AMS, turner and Coleman That's a lot of wages that they could get rid of to bring in more quality. Don't see it as a very big statement from corney to be fair.
