Survey - The Role of Football in Supporters' Identity

Recommended Posts

I've been contacted by a student from the University of Bath, who is carrying out a survey to support his dissertation on the role of football in supporters' identity. He's asked me to post this on the forums and so please click on the link below and take five minutes (it genuinely takes no longer than that) to help a brother out.

Took over 20 minutes to complete. Not sure what the purpose of it was but I think I've just joined UKIP

20 minutes? Really?

I took five minutes. The devolution question really pissed me off. All this bollocks about English votes for English laws.

Listen: even if a law applies only to England and Wales, the money for it comes out of the UK pot, therefore Scottish and Welsh and Northern Irish MPs have a direct and legitimate interest in whether those laws happen or not. The money for England and Wales laws comes from Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish taxpayers. You might like it to be hypothecated or disaggregated like that, but it's now how our system works. Okay? English votes for English laws is democratically regressive. Merry :censored:ing Christmas.

So that would also need changing?

Yes, but that is not what's on the table. What's on the table is a weakening of Parliament vis a vis the Executive, with the side effect of destroying the union. It's fine if people are told that and get to make their own minds up, but they're not being told that. They're being told that the status quo is unfair. They are being promised fairness, when in fact they're having their institutions trashed by a greedy Executive and some evil Tory bellends.

Did I say on the table? I meant in the long grass.

What about the laws passed in the Scottish, Welsh and NI parliaments? The money for them comes out of the UK pot as well and no representatives of the UK countries outside of those parliaments gets to have a say.

I think the late lord Barnett would like to disagree with some of that.

Yes, but the powers are devolved from the UK Parliament - in other words, those laws have the UK Parliament's approval. The Tories are basically stoking up people's sense of unfairness when there is no actual unfairness. They love that type of politics in the home counties and places like Rutland.

But...but...he's dead.

He'll disagree from the grave.

Someone is bound to wheel per capita spending out at some point.

I should've known better.

What got me was that question in the survey, saying what type of devolution do you want. It actually lists English votes for English laws as an actual thing, when it's really just a :censored:ty little moan from home counties thickos.

I really can't be bothered doing surverys of any sort but one about the identity of football fans and their views on devolution? Get a job!

I think it was more on if people feel more connected to their community, their country or their club and how the would identify themselves.
