NewBlue Posted December 27, 2014 Share Posted December 27, 2014 (edited) There seems to be a lot of negative posts about the lad and fans saying they'd be happy to see him go back to Villa. I can't understand why anybody would want to let our most creative player leave. Our form has been poor while he's been here but that can't be attributed to him, it started after Bristol, we'd probably be in a worse position without him. With a half decent striker he'd have notched a lot more assists than he has managed with 1In10 up top. He has the sort of quality that would be very difficult to replace and showed it as soon as he came on with some beautiful passes and a cross that any poacher would've tucked away with ease. A choice between Johnson, Philly, Winchester and Forte behind a Chris Porter type and we'd no doubt have no trouble scoring goals. From a balance point of view Johnson replacing Winchester wasn't necessarily the best call. I think Philliskirk's a decent player. How about a 4 -3-3 for home games dispensing with the holding midfielder, some will say it will leave us open to conceding goals, but we have shipped 6 in the last 2 home games with an holding midfielder anyway. Rachubka Kusunga J Wilson Elokobi Mils Winchester Jones Johnson Philliskirk Ibhre Forte In this system the front 3 would play in line interchanging to keep the opposition defenders on their toes, they would be prompted by the 3 creative central midfielders, although Jones has such a good engine he could become the box to box player. Johnson knocked a couple of tasty balls into the box that would've been finished with a poacher, and played one of the best passes you'll see from a player at this level when he half volleyed it into I think it was Mills path on the left wing. He also played the pass that could have easily gotten us a penalty in the sequence of play that resulted in their winner. He's not there to attack the ball, he's there to be putting it in the positions for it to be attacked. He was great when we tried to chase the game; did his job very well yesterday in my book. Chesterfield did. Eoin Doyle, and it was no coincidence he scored a ridiculous amount early in the season and his goals dried up when DJ left. They said Johnson was their best player in the run that saw them in the play offs. We have the creative players, just not the striker. Him and Winchester are wasted in this side at the moment. He is a very classy player and anyone that would like to see him leave just hasn't a clue about good football I`m afraid. He's the type of player we should be building around. Certainly worth a try, I think we used to do that with Kusunga, I think he ventured up front and scored a well taken goal in the famous win over Peterborough. Sorry couldnt disagree more Danny offers very little defensively, he very rarely commits to or wins an header and his work rate is poor, he has a nice touch and chips in with the odd goal but imo he isnt anywhere near as good as Johnson, both are luxury players that when the chips are down will be found wanting especially when Kelly and Jones are not playing behind them to mop up the pieces. He just needs to be allowed to play his role without worrying about getting in Phillys way and vica versa. If we loaned in a brilliant left back Mills would be dropped, no slight on him but we would have a better player. Same with Johnson and Danny P. Sorry, but i couldn't disagree with you more. Danny Philliskirk is one of; if not the, hardest workers in our squad. I'd imagine if the Opta Stats were published for our sides at our level; he'd be out in front for distance covered and for max output sprints. IMO he's our most talented footballer,and also out hardest worker. I actually can't believe you think his workrate is poor. He defends from the front; and he's been one of the key players in getting our quick tempo going; and working our high press (when we were on form) The difficulty in having brought in Daniel Johnson is his best position is the withdrawn striker / advanced midfielder role; which also happens to be Philliskirks best position too. Danny P can also play upfront outright; as shown by the Rochdale away game in which he was outstanding, but - i wouldnt say its not his best position....so LJ brought in a player to directly compete with one of our best players for the number 10 role. To open up sides at our level; you do need players who can provide a spark; or who can weigh in with a goal or 2. But, at our level especially; you also need those players to contribute to the sides shape; work ethic and game plans. Danny P does that, Daniel Johnson, from what i've seen, doesn't. I'd try and find a formation that both can play in; but - if its a straight choice in the current formation; then i'm Danny P all day...
