Have a scroll down a bit and there's a very interesting section on how he recruits players.

For those who can't be arsed reading it all he says he's sold £1.6m worth of players since he's been here, we would've gone down without the right recruitment in January last season, Elokobi was 12x out of our price range before the summer, 'I've signed a couple who've conned me [about players preferring the lifestyle rather than the football], 'we can't spend money' and a chat with Joe Royle about the Premier League reserve system

"We can't spend money," he said. "So it might be someone who's been badly injured. Or someone who's gone through the youth system but will always be seen as a youngster and is the first to be dropped."

Like Carl Winchester?

My first thought exactly.

I still don't get where Ched Evans fitted into the "We do character references for every player" claim though.

I have hugely admited LJ, I hope he has learned, but when he says they "conned me" why not say I made a mistake on.

No one can get recruitment 100%. No one is expecting hi to get it 100% right and his record is fairly good all told.

Indeed. We know we got an additional payment triggered on Brentford's promotion. How such clauses are allowed, I really don't know.

Why would they not be? Maybe I'm missing some potentially underhand aspects of these deals but they seem fair to me.

He's not daft, when applying for jobs later on in life maybe top jobs articles such as these will be researched and looked at. Everything he says has thought and meaning behind it.

Say that we were to play Brentford last game of the season and they needed a win to get promotion...

We've got nothing to play for.

By winning, we finish one place higher in midtable.

By losing, we finish one place lower in midtable and end up £100k better off.

Not great for Brentford's promotion rivals.

I was thinking of Kelly as the injured player and James Wilson as the youngster.

I suppose it's possible. Unlikely enough not to be a problem though.

It clearly has potential to bring about a conflict of interest though. My example was extreme but say there are four games left and Latics have nothing to play for when they meet Brentford; there's a clear incentive to make sure Brentford get the points towards promotion.

Shouldn't be allowed, in my opinion, just as the people involved betting on such things is not allowed.

You make a good point. There's no reason they couldn't just structure deals to depend on appearances I suppose.
