Can't understand how we have let go a fairly half decent league one goalie and replaced him with -

first- An over weight old man at the end of his career ,

second - by a buffoon .

No chance he will end up at Barnsley !!!!

Apart from the numerous mistakes that Rachubka made in many games across this season...

Kean has had one bad game, hopefully he will rectify it on Tuesday with a clean sheet.

Yes I agree lets give the lad a bit of a chance.

Incidentally I saw Chubs make some good saves against Swindon on the FLS

Rachubka had the ability to make good saves. But like they say, any professional goalkeeper is a good shot stopper... The mistakes outweighed anything else with him this season.

Without getting into the whole discussion about relative abilities, the bottom line is that it was not a change (whatever 'errors' or not Rachubka had made) that needed to be made.

Since then, we have lost 9 of 14 or 15 games after the fantastic run that preceded it. Of all his decisions - be it the removal of Rachubka, or the inablility to find an adequate replacement - Johnson got this one horribly wrong and we have paid for it since.

The removal of Rachubka and re-introduction of Elokobi destabalised a unit that had been doing well enough to establish us as a solid contender in the division.

Agreed, can't understand the 'love in' that some seem to have with George. He's a big character, but as a centre back he is on a par with Hazel and that's a guy that came in for no end of (unjustified) stick on here.

Ffs sake here we go again! The minute someone has a bad game the boo boys are out questioning their ability. He has had one bad game. The first goal was piss poor marking, free header, no chance. Second was a great shot that took everyone by surprise. Yes he coukd have perhaps done better with the third but there were defenders around who could also have done better and with the forth I think he was trying too hard to not give away a penalty rather than just go and win the ball but lets be honest at that point we were chasing shadows and it was all over bar the shouting. Now lets move on to tuesday and get behind each and every player

There are some over the top reactions - and to label any professional footballer a buffoon - plainly fits that description.

However based on the early evidence it is plain that despite the upside of his shot stopping (which is decent), he has a number of issues.

He is suspect positionally, and doesn't organise the defence properly at corners.

When you combine an initial forward movement (as he likes to make), with a starting position that is too far forward because he is concerned about the front post you end up with the mess of the first goal.

He ends up punching a lot of balls from what I have seen as he is regularly on the stretch. Indeed he got caught under a corner immediately after the goal that he missed altogether.

His kicking has a limited range for a professional goalkeeper which puts his defenders under pressure, and has done in all the games he has played.

For all that though, it was his indecision on a through ball after his early errors that concerned me the most. At that level you have to be bulletproof in belief and conviction in your decision making and ability. He lost that for me yesterday, and that must cause concern.

It is not Wilson's job to worry about his goalkeepers confidence, and if a serve from his centre half leaves him in bits then we have an issue. He has to call the shots in his area....and unfortunately, despite good aspects of his performance in games, he has not done this yet for me.

None of this is particularly unusual in a young goalkeeper - which as with Oxley before him - means it is tough for us as developmental errors cost us points.

I certainly am not on his back, but feel he is in a tough position at the moment behind a defence that are used to - and require - organisation.

Good post & I particularly agree with that bit as it's been something that's been present from his first game with us. He's a decent enough keeper though I would argue that Chubs was the same - I never saw that area as the huge weakness that others seemingly did. Across a season, I would expect Kean to be culpable for the same quantity of goals as Chubs but they would just be of a different type. In League 1, you tend to find that teams have to work with League 1 keepers that will have flaws of some kind or another.

I too don't blame the keeper, he must have had kittens with the lack of defence in front if him.

Its not an issue of blame....ultimately they, and we, are in it together.

However on 3 seperate occasions in the opening 25 minutes he was completely out of position and it caused major issues, including the first goal. He wasn't responding to defenders indecision - he set (or indeed didn't set!) the tone.

Likewise in the second half, the same thing happened again with the third goal, although on that occasion the defending in front was equally pathetic.

I suspect (or hope!) he would be the first to say this himself.....to blame his defenders (bad as some were) would seriously miss the point of analysing his own performance yesterday!!

In the few games he has played i have yet to see him come for a cross and catch it.

Either punched clear or left stranded , poor goalkeeper in my view and the worst type to instill nervousness in any defence.

We are going to have a real struggle if he stays in net for the rest of the season unless he has just had a very poor start by his standards.

Time will tell !!!!!!!

I thought we had a goalkeeping coach to make improvements?

Funny isn't it.

Kean has has one poor game. There's no denying it and most of the criticism that he's had for Saturday has been fair. But even if he'd had a stormer we'd have lost the game. So he hasn't cost us any points.

Prior to that he's been a major positive.

Rachubka has, throughout the season, had question marks against him for goal after goal. He has contributed to us losing several points.

I think Kean has generally done okay since he came in, but anyone would have to admit that he had a mare on saturday (along with the defence).

3 of the 4 goals were a comedy of errors, real schoolboy stuff.

He certainly needs to bounce back with a strong performance tomorrow, (as do the defence) as any goalkeeper would struggle with that level of defending in front of them.

He did the lose the ball on the bounce against Swindon also...

But he's now a L1 keeper for a reason, and he's human. Maybe him and J Wilson hate each other's guts. Maybe, as LJ alluded regarding a few players, he struggles with the mental side of things.

We need to get a sports psychologist in with this mob..!

Technically we've already got one, the GK coach/Sports Science guy actually "majored" in Sports Psychology at University (he went to uni in the States).

Regarding the first goal Wilson has no room to talk as it was him who let the scorer drift off him That said Kean went for a ball he had no chance of winning something he did throughout the match. Another concern is when he saves at a stretch is that he often parries the ball back into the danger zone rather than away from it..In one recent home game he came out to the edge of his area to punch away a cross. Not his job to come that far he should have left it to the central defenders. Fortunately the ball just got away from an opposition player so he got away with it. I've not beem impressed with the lad I have to say, for me he's dodgy.

Surprised this thread hasn't been bumoedt.

Was superb tonight. Claimed absolutely everything and pulled of some tidy saves.

I suppose having someone like Lockwood in front of you helps, but still....

Full credit to him.

It says a lot about his character to pick himself up after the weekend and produce what sounds like an excellent performance.

It is a point worth making that there might have been less organisational work for him to do with Lockwood on the pitch, and for those who were there a deeper defensive line?

Fair play and I hope he uses the performance as a springboard!!
