Youth Progression

Recommended Posts

We've got quite a few young players that might be expected to challenge for the first team regular spots next season:

Poleon, Murphy, Dieng, Turner, Brown, Coleman maybe even Philliskirk, who's 24 soon, and I'll even ask the question about Winchester because he's still only 21. How are they coming along, do they look good enough to be a starter in plans for the new manager and what can we expect of these players as their games develop?

I have quite big expectations for Poleon and Dieng. Think both have now shown - in fairness, it took a while for Poleon - that they have something that can be nurtured.

With LJ leaving a legacy of no reserve team (I hope the new manager reinstates it or at least gets the club in a competitive under 21 league) it's difficult for the youth to step up and shame for TP who is baulked in trying to progress the lads.

I was slightly disapointed we brought in sadler, we only needed a left back for 1 game and couldnt trust truelove who is a pro and a specialist left back to play 1 game. Poor for progression

Poor on Holdens part - at some point we've got to trust our young players instead of these endless loans. Sadler was steady at best and I honestly think a young hungry player would have offered more going forward. Truelove didn't even make the bench.

Jack Tuohy and Dan Byrnes offered pro contracts.

Decision on Paul Tyson and Devante Jacobs to be taken next week. (people on here seem to rate both of them)

George Edmondson, Callum Etches, Eddie Fulwood, Emil Tansinda, Jordache Walters and Ben Grant all released.

Poleon is :censored:

cant really call him :censored:. Hes still only young and with the proper coaching has the potential to be a quality player. It wasn't that long ago I heard fans in the main stand saying the same thing about Winchester and this season everyone loves him. he needs more time. Edited by PeterG

Do enough other clubs run proper reserve teams to play competitive matches against?

Maybe they have been offered contracts but are holding out for more ...

The phrase used by the official makes it sound as though the decision is in the club's hands. Tyson and Jacobs have been in the squad more often than the other two. Suppose it may be purely a physical maturity thing though.

Or perhaps, putting on the tin hat, a new manager will be chosen within the week and will decide on their futures...
