Meet the manager 07/03/16 at OEC

Recommended Posts

Tracy asked your question for you Stagger, Both Shez and PS were impressed by the fitness levels of the players and also their professional attitudes too.

As regards the Reserves, Shez asserts that there will definitely be a reserve team system,( probably in a league) for next season, though he doesn't yet know where they will play.

Thanks owdumer, I was just longing on to let staggerlee know he owes me a pint of Amber nectar if I ever make it down under

And as I'm bloody useless, did you pop over to say hello to me?

Shez very funny, as you'd expect.

Shirtliff impressive.

Wants us in a proper reserve league next season - eg, needs to call on Mills but he's short of the match practice he'd have if we had a proper reserve side.

Similar with kids - would love to throw some in but can't. Would be doing were we mid table. Tuohy and Byrnes received mentions.

Will never play just one up front.

Gerrard and Wilson "incident" v Gillingham (where Gerrard told Wilson to grow some balls) continued at half time. Shez let it. Both players shook hands after the game.

Praised Wilson for being one of his better players after having gone through a hard time before he came.

Would have us back in the Chaddy End if it were upto him.

Shirtliff would have home fans behind both goals like Bournemouth (it was pointed out to him there aren't enough of us)

Shez would rather have no loanees but they can be both good and bad. He learned last time never to loan experienced, "known" players and will never do so again.

Shirtliff said defenders were playing it about in and around their own box without the confidence to do so and thought they were "supposed to". Quickly cut that out of them. Both Shez and PS mentioned a few times we were playing on the edge of our own box which is playing with fire. Needed to be playing 10 to 20 yards further forward which has been drummed into them and they're starting to get.

Coleman is his number 1 and will make mistakes just like him and PS did when they were kids. He needs to learn from the mistakes but has done well otherwise.

Shirtliff was coaching out in Florida and his wife wasn't too happy when he told her he'd took a job at Oldham.

Shez scored his first career goal at BP for Leeds.

Ron Atkinson the best manager they both played under.

No problems with players fitness when they arrived and since. Impressed with how strong they still are at end of games.

Shez knows we only really love him because of the penalty he gave away in 1991.

Just a quick note to say thanks to those who attended. It was our first event in the new North stand. Hopefully when we get the resources and techno up we might en able to offer an interactive/live feed for those who late unlabelled to make it or live a distance away.

Can't remember all the questions but I'm sure others will post on here too,as I'm a bit knackered and may miss/need clarifying a bit

Simon Brooke Trust representative hosted the event. Asked both shezza and Shirtliff as players what was the best/worst moment they every had a BP, who was there fave managers they have worked under too...and a few other questions I can't remember.

The pitch. shezza and Shirtliff say it's the same for both teams, it's our ground we should be able to play on it

Home and away support is important to the players. Shezza loves his song..hahah

shezza and Shirtliff both want the youth team to be close by on training days so they can in fill and certainly looking at bringing back a reserve team too net season

Do we have a 20 goalscorer?...no not so far this season. shezza said maybe at the start of the season if he was here we could say that in the crop we have

There was a question about us seemingly to be pushed up more in the oppos half....yep that's were we should be in the oppos half scaring and running at their defenders.

Fitness, is surprisingly good

If we were say mid table, nows the time they would look at fringe position, but now is not he time

Is lafferty a possible purchase....not at this stage

Are loanees a good thing? Yes and no

Forte, has had the flu recently, we have to look after him, if he was 100% fit then he is a player who should be in a higher league and depending on ether opposition, is when int eh game we play him and in what position too

Mills....there was a question on whether he should be in mindfield and I can't remember the answer but vaguely, both shezza and shirtliff said they have not seen enough of him. Shirtliff did mention he wants his defenders to be able to backtrack and defend

Gerrard and Wilson and the "grow some" heated words at one of the last home games....Shezza said well it words worked didn't it. He let both players have a go at HT then it was sorted. He knows Gerrard is and believes Wilson is/ are good players for us

Question about should the fans relocate back to the chaddy, both said they would like home fans in all stands if they had there way.

Penalty taker...can we change him..shezza responded by saying what you want to change the penalty taker who has scored two in two? It was a light hearted joke about the recent one hitting the bar before being tapped in. Shezza doesn't chose the penalty taker it is whoever has confidence to take it on the day

There were a lot of comments about how the team are playing better under the current management

I know I have missed some other things out. Next event details to be announced in a few days time so watch this space

Don't even talk to me about those two bastards - they gave me number 60 and Ninda the winning no. 61 in the training session raffle....

On that point Shez was very strong that he wanted the youth and 1st team training next to each other so he could pull a few kids in now and again

It's baffling why it would be any other way, IMHO. We can't blame KElly and Dunn either, so many do it.

Love absolutely all of this, wish I'd hAve gone.

Cheers though Bosch.

Sure it was one up front vs Scunthorpe.

The idea of not loaning experienced players is nonsense.

I thought Winchester did a sound impression of one of our strikers at Scunthorpe and I took 'experienced' and 'name' to mean, no more Michael Ricketts'.

Think the report mentioned - Name players - that does not mean he wont get experienced loan players, we could just still get a guy who has played 200 games for Lincoln city as a left back but no one knows his name.

We have had a few down the years and not necessarily on loan. Keigan parker, windass, ricketts, Brett ormerod, Adam Rooney, Allan smart and even david dunn.to name a few. All came with big reputations of varying degrees and none showed the promise that got them that said reputation.

Ormerod is a unique case as he later went on to play again at the top level however brief

I think I owe a few people on this board a few schooners, you are more than welcome just PM me (seriously) and I sure our spare room could be put to use for a while. All you will need to bring is instructions on how to make Lancashire hotpot and a thirst for cold beers
