Agree, BUT there's obviously not the funds to bring in the players we need to balance the side out. Sometimes you have to wheel and deal.

Is it not a bit like not having enough money to repair your car and selling the engine to raise funds tho ? Or is that a terrible analogy ? Edited by simplythemostimportantkick

He WANTS to leave. Spat his dummy out probably because AG got 2 1/2 years. BUT AG is 4 years his junior and a much better footballer.

He's part of a team despite his cult status that is second bottom of the league. No one is indespensible, roll the dice. Let's hope it pays off...

If we didn't have AG and Wilson (possibly young George if the deal doesn't go through) so we've still got options. BW was easily POTM in January. I'd sacrifice tightness at the back for more goal threat. We've nowhere near the depth we had last season. We can keep Clarke and ho down or we can sell him, Shake up the squad and have a real go.

I see it more like if he wasn't part of the team we'd already be as good as down tbh. I see your point tho if he does want to go not much point keeping him. Is there any substance behind the rumour tho ? Maybe he wants an extension ?

Defence will cope, Dunne should be back im a few weeks time and we can also recall Jamie Scott who has been doing well for Curzon Ashton? It's goals we need more than anything.

agree with you on the goals bit, all our strikers have been awful this season, with the exception of hollaway ,who won more headers in the posh game than Erwin has all season. But don't agree on Clarke, we would be cut adrift now but for him and ripley.

but we need new blood in the midfield and on the wings. if the rolling of the dice is if we can get cash and clarke off the wage bill we can sign a midfielder and winger id do that deal even though clarke is the best player.

cant imagine we have cash just free to sign more players to keep us up. dont want to see him go and if he goes and no one comes in id be fuming but if we then get one/two players to help us create then id think that is a decent move for us to be doing

FALSE ECONOMIES

(someone had to be the first to say it)

Can we find a player or two good enough to allow us to rid the shackles before the end of today? That's what the manager needs to weigh up. All well and good saying get strikers in but if they can't guarantee a significant improvement, as leaders, as well as in terms of ability, then there's no point trying to be more expansive.

Although that gives the impression we have a chance of keeping Clarke, which we clearly don't.

Clarke a miles better footballer than AG for me.

Maybe he knows the terms Scunny are offering him and sees it as too good a deal to turn down, given that at age 35, it might be his last professional contract.

Taylor or Clarke, who would you prefer in our current situation?

More fool Scunthorpe if they'll pay for a 35 year old.

He needs replacing though.

Maybe the the rumours of signing the young Tarkowski type centre back from Arsenal on loan aren't without foundation.

I mustn't speculate though.
