Robbo on the brink? Has a previous manager ever turned it round from such a position?

Recommended Posts

Looks like SR has been told he's gone if we don't beat Fleetwood going off his LP interview and his mates comments on Twitter.

Lets hope he can get the first of several wins tomorrow, keep his job and keep us up.

Has a manager in the past ever been a dead man walking but turned it around, either temporarily or ahead of a run of real success?

Dickov maybe? 3 or 4 times

Was Royle not far off at one point?

Other than that I can't think of anyone who didn't just keep digging a bigger hole for himself until the inevitable happened...?

And yet an agent posted on Twitter things went well on his visit to BP.

Unless this means we have a new owner lined up?

We've been in the :censored: a few times and it's looked precarious but I can only really think of this year and last year where we've been cut adrift rock bottom.

the situation we are in calls for an old stager like Moore - he achieved miracles with Hartlepool when cut adrift at the bottom of the FL

It could just be that the "threatening and abusive tweet aimed at the Oldham Athletic manager Stephen Robinsons family" is the final straw and Robinson can't see beyond the Fleetwood game because he doesn't want to be here any more.

Nah. I think it's because he knows his job is seriously at risk.

What does his mate say on Twitter?

What are the stipulations for Fleetwood?

We must score? We must win?

Perhaps discussions about transfers have caused friction, similar to Kelly. It seems bizarre he would be kept on for so long while we're dour, only to be sacked the game before he has a chance to alter it. Little has changed on the pitch since pressure began to mount two months ago.

Surely Shez last year? We were in far greater :censored: then, than we are now. We'll get deeper if we carry on, but at this point, we are not all that far from safety points wise.

I mean the manager being on the brink of the sack rather than the team being on the brink of relegation....

To sack him now makes no sense when the transfer window is about to open, if he was to be sacked it should of been weeks ago.

Unless Corney has a replacement in mind but told him to be identifying targets?

Maybe Corney wants to give a new manager a few weeks to see what he can get out of these players....

Leicester were absolutely :censored:ed under Pearson weren't they, but kept him and began their title winning form at the end of the season (albeit Claudio got the glory courtesy of racist rim-job antics)

I think Royle got one point out of 9 games once, possibly 84/85 or 86/87

I'll have a look in the book

Crikey it was worse than I thought. One draw and 9 defeats in 10 consecutive league games 85/86. And I don't remember anyone calling for Royles head. Interestingly the forwards he had were Futcher Palmer Quinn and Fairclough. Defence was Goram, Donachie, McDonagh, Hoolickin and Ryan. Scored 9 and conceded 26. What may have helped was having won 8 and drawn 3 of the first 14 games of the season.

They bought Paul Jones and Andy Linighan in late December/January and lost 4 of the remaining 17.

Could sending death threat boy to Thailand to recreate the incident, but this time with a he-she, be worth a go?
