Lags Posted January 25, 2017 Share Posted January 25, 2017 Whilst it's true no manager on earth can help the players once they cross the white line, they certainly can influence a side. Robinson came with the Northern Ireland mind set of defend first whilst Sheridan as already said we need to attack more even if that means shipping more goals. If nothing else it should create more excitement after enduring some drab boring football. Within the first 5 minutes last night Sheridan shouted to Halloway " Stop coming short". It was evident throughout the night and more so second half that the midfield/defence pushed higher up the pitch. I reckon for sure Sheridan reminded them at half time because the second half the effort was upped. disjointed Posted January 25, 2017 Share Posted January 25, 2017 It was pretty obvious 2nd half we were playing higher up the pitch, I would say that was more to do with Peterborough trying to play the ball from the back, but I doubt under Robinson we would have done that. Second half you could immediately see the difference in us, more urgency and playing higher up the pitch, no way would we have seen that under Robinson. I agree Peterborough were :censored:e for the whole 90 minutes, but credit where its due, we were much better second half and deservedly won the game. Having said that it is also the poorest Latics side we have had in that time. The Dowie side or 1st Shez side would have walked this league by several points but there has been an overall downgrade of league 1 over the past 15 years. The difference now is that any decent manager who can put together even half an organised team could get a play off spot such is the small difference between the teams at the top and the bottom. That's why i am more optimistic now than ever before that if we can keep Shez and build on keeping a squad together (signing players like Gerrard and Holloway on longer term deals is a great start) then we can definitely challenge for a place at the top next season. Maybe Shez has come back because of the promise of Chinese investment soon , who knows but if it does come off then good times might not be too far away !!! Yet still the teams with the most money are dominating. Apart from Rochdale - there's always one who defies the logic - the top eight are money-bags. Is it a coincidence that the wealthiest clubs buy the best players and have the best teams? I don't think it's any different to any other year. This says it all for me Bearing in mind Shez had just been sacked for poor performance with a league 2 team (and being upset Santa was not going to visit ) It rams home how far SR was out of his depth, not in a Kelly way, but still way below acceptable. That said, I didn't expect Ladapo to be one of those players as he didn't look like doing anything at this level. boundaryblue80 Posted February 13, 2017 Share Posted February 13, 2017 (edited) That last chance Ladapo missed for us when 1 on 1 (was a gift horse chance) I looked at it and thought, that's the sort of chance that when your head is fully of positivity and encouragement you bag it. When it's full of negativity and desperation, you snatch and stick it horribly wide. It summed up Robbo's reign for me and the negativity he was sticking in their heads endlessly...these players, while average at best, had had the belief battered out of them. Midsblue Posted February 13, 2017 Share Posted February 13, 2017 Some managers just click with a club and some click with players whatever the club, the circumstance etc. Sheridan and OAFC just click as a partnership and he seems to get the best out of players with the resources here. Would be interesting if we kept Ladapo and played him in this side that's showing more confidence and flood the box with players and chances. Confidence breeds confidence and Ladapo is proving that once you start to score then the chances get converted. The other thing is Robinson was a defender so focussed more on defence and less so on midfield and attack. It strangled creativity and hit the confidence of those up front. Sheridan is attack minded and his creativity in the middle of the park is being coached into his players - get the ball forward and if you're playing in their half then there's less chance of conceding and more chance of creating and scoring. Get a few more wins under our belt, a bit of security in the middle of the table and I'd love us to start to nurture our younger strikers on the pitch. This applies especially to Glackin - appears to be a hot prospect and hopefully he continues his scoring in our first team soon Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I think he's scored all his goals for Shrewsbury from inside the penalty area, he spent most of his time here outside it. Was it tactics here that dictated where he should play?
