Matt
Audacity - Freeware sound editor and converter. Firefox - Freeware browser that's miles better than Internet Explorer. WinAmp - Again the freeware domain knocks Microsoft into a cocked hat - This is a great audio player... ZoneAlarm - Freeware firewall - well recommended. AVG Anti Virus - Another great freeware anti virus program. Daily updates make this a winner... Ccleaner - A fanastic freeware cleanup tool, I take this to every job I go to. Ewido Anti Spyware - Now AVG but still a top bit of kit. SpyBot Search & Destroy - I have two anti spyware programs to cover me, this is my second. Quality. Juice - Freshly squeezed excellence. Cross-platform podcast reciever without all the Apple :censored:e that goes with it. GOM Player - A great video viewer that does the lot. Irfanview - Splendid image manipulation and conversion tool, I use this a lot. I'll post more when I get a minute. If there's a link down please give us a shout, also if you've got something that we should know about please feel free to post it up here as well - however if we find out that it's warez, we'll take it down - plus you may get a warning... Crusoe
OpenOffice - free office suite, replaces Microsoft Office, almost entirely compatible with Word and Excel, also prints PDFs Google Earth - photos of anywhere in the world, needs broadband connection Trillian - combines MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger and AIM in one program VLC Media Player - free DVD playing software, not region-coded, great all-round media player Tweak UI Power Toy - lets you fiddle with hidden XP settings Ad Aware Personal - same as Spybot, I run both anti spyware programs together Windows Defender - ditto, free anti spyware software from Microsoft K Lite Codec Pack - decoders for all movie & music file types, plus Real Alternative and Media Player Classic to replace bloated XP software And if you download Firefox (listed above) there are some excellent add-ons for it: Ad Block Plus - filters banners and Flash ads, even Google text ads, from web pages No Script - blocks all scripts and executable content from web pages unless you allow them IE Tab - runs IE in a Firefox page, so you can open pages that don't like Firefox Mouse Gestures - navigate the web in Firefox using combinations of mouse movements
tactically_naive
Ccleaner - A fantastic freeware cleanup tool, I take this to every job I go to. I've just installed and run this and it's cleaned about 0.5GB of rubbish from my PC and I run several utility progs regularly on my PC. Top stuff. Matt
Couple of others - FastStone - Great little image viewer, becoming the bees knees in freeware image cataloguing and viewing. FileZilla - Fantastic free FTP client. I use this and AceFTP, I actually prefer this one. Too easy to delete things on the server with AceFTP. Speedfan - Monitors voltages, fan speeds and temperatures in computers with hardware monitor chips. Interesting bit of kit this, you can change your fan speed as well! Matt
Smart Script 3.0 - This is a text, hex and HTML editor. Helps out with scripting C#, VB.NET C, C++, Basic variants, Java, Pascal, SQL, HTML, XML, CSS, Perl, JavaScript, Delphi, PHP, SE Script etc. I've been working with this over the last 3 months - superb - no problems yet. Matt
K!TV - If your machine has a tuner you might want to get hold of this, and it's completely free! You can download, install, watch and recorord your favourite TV shows. I'd download this quick before it goes shareware/commercial. Found by Sheephead. Cheers for that. AVItricks Video Editor - Freeware video editing tool, full of features, filters and effects. Looks like it can output to loads of screensizes but to only .AVI or .WMV. But .WMV is pretty close compression to MPEG4. There are some freeware converters knocking about too. Convert to MPEG4 - Freeware video converter

Bring Back Ronnie Moore
GIMP - Free image editor for Windows and Linux, a much better alternative to MSPaint and a much cheaper alternative to Adobe Photoshop. Don't let the name discourage you, it's very good.

Matt
Some essentials for 2009.... Handbrake - HandBrake is a GPL-licensed, multiplatform, multithreaded video transcoder. HandBrake is not a ripper. It converts video, it does not rip it byte by byte. It does not crack the latest DVD copy protection schemes hatched by the studios. It converts video from nearly any format to a handful of modern ones—that's it. HandBrake is not everything for everyone for every need. - that's what they say, and it's good at what it does too... Quick Media Converter - Free application Quick Media Converter converts virtually any audio or video file from one format to another. Clone2Go Video Converter - Clone2go Free Video Converter can convert video files of different formats. The input format includes: WMV, FLV, MPEG-4, MPG, RM, RMVB, AVI, 3GP, etc. The output format includes: MP4, AVI, WMV, FLV, etc. AShampoo Burning Studio Free - Powerful free tool can author CDs, DVD's and Blu-Ray. It can rip and burn, clone, back up and create and write ISO's - GET IT WHILE YOU CAN! JDiskReport - Disk space manager
