  1. Can’t work out why but during the game yesterday felt the urge to go so me and the boy going. Maybe just felt there’s a decent win round the corner or maybe couldn’t think of owt better to do on a Tuesday night.
  2. Good summary from the mighty bosh further up this page - although I thought Davies’s miss was the worst, all he had to do was put it either side of the keeper - 10 yards from goal with time and space and he hit it straight at him. We had those 2 chances at 3-1 and could’ve been back level but you did get the feeling that they were going to score every time they went forward...missed Bryan massively today! For those going over the top moaning about yesterday (sure I saw the word refund mentioned on Twitter). It’s our choice if we go and watch/support the team. Having been a Latics fan for 40 years I go to games fully aware that we could possibly be shite, as someone said, for every away day like Plymouth there’s a Portsmouth, for every Crewe there’s a Chesterfield, without the lows the highs wouldn’t be as good. We’ve made good progress under Wellens and there’ll be plenty of good days to come. As the great man once said...keep the faith!
  3. Me and the boy going, plus dragging my cousin an Oldham lad in the marines down there and his lad along. Reckon there could be 300+ Spoke to quite a few that are heading down.
  4. Re parking...I approach from the M1 but sure we all end up on the same soulless dual carriageway system so... As you approach the ground on your left after the 234th roundabout directly opposite the retail park/hotel/ground is a kind of slip road and turning on the right. Drive down there and there is a small industrial estate and a then a few houses, plenty of parking down there and a 5 minute walk through a little underpass to the ground. I’ve never found a decent pub near by but the bar at the hotel next to the ground is ok and not usually busy.
  5. Don't let the shithouse Pompey fans overshadow yesterday. They were pathetic, I was down at the front waiting to get out at the end before they turned us all round and at one point there was 5 stewards holding 50 schooligans and a few older knobheads that should know better back, they didn't really want it just wanted to put their pictures/videos on social media to show how hard they are. One fella similar age to me came over and shook my hand, said we deserved the win and apologised for the "kids" the old 657 firm would be embarassed by that yesterday. Can't believe they react like that to losing and seeing George dick about with his top off, how the fuck do they think we've coped for the last few years!! Unbelivable from them, no sense of humour and clearly nothing better to do in Portsmouth. On the pitch that 1st half was the best 45 mins I've seen from a Latics side in many years...we were superb. Every player contributed, that was Dummigan's best game since signing, Bryan is a quality centre back won countless headers, Hunt settled into the game really well and looks good both defending and getting forward, Placide is bat shit crackers as all keepers should be, he claims everything that comes into the box, must be so reassuring for that defence knowing he's there and it's no coincidence that Clarky looks back to his best again. Davies is a different player now, holds the ball up so well, his strength on the ball is ridiculous, he was back to being mental and loving it at the end as well! Doyle and Byrne are on another level though, don't know how long we can keep them together but we need to enjoy it whilst it lasts. There's a real togetherness as well, they are enjoying their football and it shows on the pitch and at the end of the game they are straight over to thank the fans, I hate to get carried away but can't help feeling we're on the verge of something...should be another lively one against Blackburn, loving my football again at the moment!!
  6. I thought the same too...maybe just don't want to believe he's injured but have a sneaky suspicion Doyle may make a miraculous recovery, hope so! Good Companion for us for a pre match bite to eat and pint, looking forward to seeing Act 2 of the Johny Placide show.
  7. Nothing but admiration for the great man! Had the pleasure of watching him as a player, him and Eyresy made the game look so easy, week in week out. Enjoyed his first stint as manger and will be forever grateful for him coming back and keeping us up twice. Lasting memories are of his fist pump at Southend away, first Shezerection when he knew the job was done! Finally got to shake his hand at Bristol Rovers, a couple of weeks ago when he came over and told us to "keep fucking supporting" Forget everything else, that can be debated elsewhere. For those that don't get it, he was one of us, he loved the club, he got us, knew what we were about and knew what we wanted. Feel absolutely gutted tonight and in true Shez style having a couple on a school night...cheers lad!
  8. Kenny Clements - hair David Currie - moustache Ian Marshall - accent Calm down, Calm down!!
  9. I think we can stake a claim to having rattled the keeper when he was in front of us 1st half. He was one of the ones involved with Nigel Pearson's son with some young ladies?!? in Thailand and subsequently sacked by Leicester. Naturally he took some good natured stick off us and at half time as he was picking his bottle up gave a couple of wanker signs to the Latics fans and stormed off! At the time I thought he'd completely screwed up the flight of Byrnes shot but having seen it I think the credit goes to Byrne on that one. Did Davies's shot get a slight deflection?
  10. That was fucking mental...get in! Even got a handshake off Shez..."keep supporting us, we'll fucking get it right" Top Man!! 3 hour drive home...don't care wouldn't have missed that for owt!!
  11. There's a decent pub - the Wellington, less than 5 mins walk from the ground, plenty of street parking near there.
  12. Wouldn't disagree with this, but would point out that making almost 6000 posts on a football forum is also a unique kind of weird. In my defence the last few years since my lad turned into a teenager and decent company on the journey etc, I normally decide at the beginning of each season to go to every away game. This normally falters around the time of year known as Gillingham away, there's something about that game that I just can't get excited about but so far this season I'm still up for it. The fact we haven't won doesn't really make much of a difference, surely we would've all stopped going years ago if we were glory supporters. As for the team, I'd be surprised if Shez changes much from Saturday. The new lad didn't look as though he had played wing back before not sure if Shez will stick with him...think George should be given time to settle in, he will learn quickly from playing alongside Clarky. I've got a good feeling about this game, we have turned a corner now, we will win tomorrow.
  13. Me, my lad and his mate going, standing on that open terrace and the forecast looks horrendous. It's got all the makings of one of those games where you look back in a few years and say, I was there at Bristol Rovers that Tuesday night when... Not sure how that's going to end but got a good feeling about this, maybe it'll be known as Queensy day in years to come and the 100 or so of us there will end up being a 1000 with all those claiming to be have witnessed the miracle of Bristol!!
  14. Got to be difficult in this internet era for papers like the Chron to keep going, long may it continue. As an exile I obviously don't bother but can remember it getting delivered when we still lived in Oldham and then in the Royle era had a couple of Aunties that would keep the "specials" for me that I still have somewhere. Back to Matt, I don't claim to know him well but have sat with him at a couple of games and he's converted into a proper Latics fan...sometimes dropping the journalist act for a second and celebrating a goal or questioning what went wrong when we concede. As someone pointed out, there's not exactly been a lot to comment on recently. If you take away all the crap on Twitter and those in the know on here spouting their shite it's been as dull off field as it has on the pitch these last few weeks. Even helium man on TWAL is struggling to get enthusiastic now Love Island has finished. Also, now big Gordy has passed away there may not be so much being passed onto the journalists if you know what I mean. Gordy knew what he could get away with letting people know whereas the young lads will no doubt be scared shitless of upsetting that nice Mr Corney. From the online stuff and occasional times I see a copy, the Chron and Matt Chambers give a very balanced factual daily round up of what's happening at the club. Unfortunately at the moment that's not a lot but I've seen someone on twitter saying there's 3 new signings coming in today...?
  15. It's not just yesterday's one sided embarrassment that pisses me off, it's the start to the season as a whole. Last week Shez says we are 5/6 players short now we are supposed accept watching a half decent league one team take the piss. The amount of time and space their midfield had in that first half yesterday and it was the same in the 2nd half at Walsall is unbelievable...meanwhile our midfielders couldn't find space if they were launched from Cape Canaveral in a fucking rocket!! 3 league games in, 3 defeats and 1 goal scored which was a fucking cross!! We need 2 or 3 players in as soon as possible, a settled team and a formation that works. Surely that's what pre season was for??
