Watching Latics' twitter feed showing videos of great goals and passages of play from the late 80s early 90s gives me goosebumps. None of it was a dream. It actually feckin happened. We were absolutely awesome and would give most of today's if not all PL teams a run for their money. Hell, even Madrid would know that they had been in a game even with someone with an ego the size of Australia in their side.

The videos bring back so many memories of those times. All the smells, and the events of the days surrounding the games come flooding back like they were yesterday. People say that they can remember what they were doing the day Kennedy was shot. Well i can remember needing a root canal filling because i went to Brighton on the Friday to witness Ritchies thunderbolt on the Saturday instead of going to the dentist.

I also remember forgetting to pick my brother in law up from the airport after his holiday because i drove to Hull to witness two screamers from Redfearn in the last 10 mins to make it 2-2. He was sat at the airport for 4 hours! The in laws didnt speak to me for months!

For those that were not around to witness such greatness, i am truly sorry.

For those that were, what were your most memorable moments of those times.

Do you think that we will ever see such a collective of players of that ilk again?

For the sake of those that werent, i truly hope so.

Shrewsbury away something like 1986. 2-0 down at HT brought it back to 2-2 and missed a pen in the 90th minute. Broke away and got the winner in injury time.. Palmer hat trick ? Pelople dancing on car roofs in the car park.

i may be making this up.?

Thankfully Ive watched us since 1970 so had the joy and pride of seeing great attacking sides and the peak years at the top level. My son was too young to see these epic times but we can only now live in hope that the good times may come back to Oldham.

traveling to Filbert street early eighties just after Alan Young's boast of scoring an easy hatrick against us on the latics liner, throng of tics lead through the streets to the ground on foot getting steadily louder as we get to the ground . first half big Jim Steele crashes home a header for a 1-0 away win much to the delight of the traveling hoards who quite rightly give Young much deserved stick throughout the game escorted back  through the streets again the noisy throng were much cheered by the news that manure had suffered a 6-0 away battering at ipswich happy days !

Taking away the obvious highlights and special moments, there are a few that are special for one reason or another. Bad as well as good, I remember sitting in the corner at Leeds, it was cold, wet and we were awful. I can't remember what year but we lost 2-0 and I just remember asking why I bothered with football. In terms of standard league game, the 5-0 over Forest was a highlight, it just seemed unreal.

I've had a few glasses of red, but didn't Glenn Kelley play up front for part of that game ?

My memory was that  he started up front and was either subbed or switched position at half time.it may have been the other way round.

so many of the matches in the top division are seared into my memory

but

more recently the 5.0 defeat at hereford stand out for me !!

3 0 down after 10 minutes or something ridiculous

the 'highlight' was a streaker wearing only walking boots running the full length of the pitch
