Keeper turned goalscorer

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know anything about a story going round that our youth section picked up a keeper who had been released by City. Said keeper then  played up front in an emergency and scored a hat trick....he has not stopped scoring since and City have signed him back as a striker for a very lucrative fee?

bollocks or founded in truth?

I think you know the answer to that?

I'd double check that this rumour didn't start in early April.

We should have tried it with Kettings in the first  team last season.

Jon Hallworth had a go in a league match in the mid 90's I recall.

That was the second leg of a 2 leg League Cup fixture v West Ham, the first being the 6-0 St Valentine's Day Massacre game. As we were 6-0 up Joe chose a goalkeeper on the sub's bench, even though we only had 2 subs at the time. Then there were 2 injuries so they stuck Hallworth in centre mid.

Is that true or just an urban myth? I was at the game and remember being very convinced we'd cock it up, being chased past the Boleyn pub and a keeper being on the bench (another story) but did he actually come on?

Palace away 95/96 I reckon it was - we came from 2 down - Hallworth came off the bench as a striker then had a clear header to win it but fluffed it.

Correct.  Vonk scored two identical goals from corners

I was sure he did. Others disagree. I can't find a team sheet!

1. Hallworth 2. Irwin 3.Barlow 4.Henry 5.Barrett 6.Warhurst

7.Adams 8.Palmer 9.Marshall 10.Milligan 11.Holden R

12.Donachie (unused) 14.Rhodes (unused)

So big Joe did put a keeper on the bench for the 2nd leg for insurance in the days when you never normally named a keeper on your bench.

Thank you for that! I was wrong about some of the details...interesting how we create false memories, the human mind is a complex thing.
