  2. I know this is an old post and, as you can see I'm hardly a regular poster, but this post has really riled me. I remember 2005 in the Rochdale Road End when 1,500 (including me) demanded Hardy and Corney sign Moore up as manager permanently, and a year later Sheridan was made manager mainly to appease the fans as there were concerns about season ticket sales if Moore had stayed on. So maybe TTA have learnt something, which is to ignore us 'experts' calling for Gannon or Ritchie and appoint someone for football reasons alone. I must admit I know very little about Penney, but the more I read and hear, the more I like the sound of him in terms of what he says and what he has done. Let's give him a few games at least...
  3. I was trying to think of a team that kept Smalley in the side but didn't involve playing either Liddell or Whittaker on the other wing and was struggling. The 3 - 5 - 2 might work, but we always seem to struggle when we move away from the 442 comfort zone. I'd love to see Lewis play as an attacking midfielder just behind Hughes and Deano. I've thought for a while that he would suit playing a Scholes-esque role with two to aim for ahead of him especially as, although he is/will be a great player I don't think he is ever going to be a prolific scorer. It would also help solve my biggest frustration with Shez; how the attacking midfielders we have had under him (Killer, Wellens and now Whits) all seem to start at Oldham in that role, before heading deeper and deeper back. Especially at home, we need a real attacking threat from midfield as the forward two seem so isolated at times. I assume Shez will just go with 442 though, with Lids or Whittaker in for Taylor.
  4. So assuming Deano isn't in net, DJ is injured and Seb Hines can play as a CB or defensive midfielder, what do you reckon for Saturday? Who is going to play instead of Taylor? What team would you play and what do you think Shez will do?
  5. Thank you for the opinions! I think there ain't a lot I can do about Saturday as it was my stupid idea in the first place whether I meant it or not. And I think my mum's going to have my season ticket and go with my dad, so it won't be wasted. but I think I'll use testimonies on here to prove to her that six months does not make an anniversary.
  6. The other day I offered to miss the Northampton game so that me and the good lady wife can spend valentine's together and go out for lunch and a walk and whatever. I fully expected her to say 'don't worry about it, we'll go out in the evening instead', whilst proving to her that she was more important than the latics. To my total dismay, she thought it was a great idea. To make things worse, I found out yesterday that the Bristol Rovers game has been re-arranged for the 24th, which is our 6 month wedding anniversary and I'd already arranged a meal and whatever. Anyone else having to miss the game next Saturday because of valentine's? Or am I the only one under the thumb? Shall I put my foot down, go to the game and risk an almight row? Especially if we play like we did in the last home game, maybe I should be grateful for an excuse not to go...
  7. I wasn't moaning at all! Read the name of the thread... I was praising the great work rate and team ethic that appears to be there, that was lacking in similar games last season. I know it is assumed that every thread on here has to start with a moan, but I'm one of those rare breed that doesn't moan, despite sitting in the main stand.
  8. Whilst trying to avoid saying the obvious cliche of good teams winning whilst playing badly, that is pretty much what happened. We beat a pretty decent team, even though no-one played a stormer: Taylor and Whittaker were quiet, Ruebs, although superb as usual defensively, hoofed it more than usual, neither of the front two were at their best and even MOM ratter's passing wasn't up to his usual standards. There were so many home games like that against middling opposition last season, the only difference is that last season we would have drawn or even lost that game. The difference seems to be the attitude of the players as a team; last season after an early goal we always sat back and invited pressure until the inevitable equaliser. Yesterday, however, we kept the pace up and always offered options going forward, and the workrate was superb defensively, with players covering each other all over the park. That kind of workrate was only reserved for the 'bigger' games last year and hence we always tend to do well agains the likes of Leeds and the dippers. That's why I think yesterday was such an important result and standard to set. It's interesting that of all the new signings, only Whitts is catching, but the depth in squad is meaning that everyone knows that they have to put in that effort every game or there's someone to replace them; for example I think that Liddell is playing the best football he has for us, knowing that Deano is ready and waiting to take his place.
