  1. Ta singe, realised pretty much immediately after I posted it! Will definitely be getting some once they're out, really is a fantastic gesture, with the added bonus of looking absolutely brilliant!
  2. Fantastic. As someone who - sadly amongst an increasing amount of people - suffers from severe tinnitus day in day out, this is an absolutely magnificent touch. I'd actually bought some a few months back purely as I love the design, I hadn't realised the proceeds would go to the BTA, who are a fantastic organisation doing their utmost to shine more light on the struggle of sufferers, and hopefully promote better understanding of this horrific condition, and ultimately better care so we don't have to lose one more person like Gilly. Thank you Bands FC
  3. My uncle, who has always been more of a Roughyeds fan, but, like many, jumped on the bandwagon when we were good as a point of wider 'civic pride', tells me the same story every bloody Christmas, which is pretty much the only time I see him, about how he went to Wembley for the league cup final in 1990, and thought fans were singing 'Who loves you, Palmer?' instead of 'Ooooh Roger', leading to me telling him every Christmas that he should have just stuck to the feckin egg chasing.
  4. Had to chuckle at this, as a mate from school I used to drag to Latics with me used to think 'Neil Warnock's blue and white army' was something like 'Know I want spline, Tony'. Happy to see the spirit of Tony lives on, whoever he is
  5. Really good read, as was Dan Turner's entry. Although his line about singing 'Always look on the bright side of life', and having it returned back at us with gusto after you know what brought back some long since repressed bad memories A mate of mine chucked a podcast my way about our 89-94 seasons too. It's a bit shambolic, but it's a fairly nice listen, and I enjoyed it overall. https://www.acast.com/nessundorma/s2ep3-oldhamathletic1989-1994
  6. I thought something similar. Must admit when I heard Bristol City were interested, my first instinct was it would be a permanent deal seeing as he only has a year left on his deal currently, so was surprised to read rumours it's likely to only be a loan deal, especially when they have a good goalkeeper already in Fielding. Got to say I'm surprised he hasn't been snapped up by someone, but at the end of the day, it's all conjecture, we don't even know how the player himself feels about his future. It would be a shame if a player of his calibre were to waste his talents staying at a club where, barring an injury crisis, he's unlikely to see the first team, but if he really wants to make it at his boyhood club and prove his doubters wrong, good on him I suppose. Hopefully we'll have someone sorted before our game against the Dark Lord's Select XI (reserves) tonight.
  7. Did you affect your best Dick van Dyke in Mary Poppins style Cockney accent to convince him you weren't a nowven mankey?
  8. Everton 2008 was officially 5,551 Wolves, 3,200 or around that
  9. Also looking forward to Gerrard going directly up against him at corners given their spat last year, should be amusing.
  10. Fair do's mate, other opinions are most definitely available ? Can only go by what I hear around me and I can safely say he wasn't particularly popular for a good while. Vaguely remember him also having a few verbals with a fan in the Paddock at end of one game too. I think his versatility will see him play a very high number of games, but I do think Shez will want to get a Dummigan-McLaughlin partnership going down the right when we're not playing 3 at the back Great having so many good options for once!!
  11. I'm struggling to think of a player in recent times who has completely turned round fans opinions more than Wilson. As little as a season and a half ago he was getting comments on here about hoping to never see him play for us again, regularly singled out for abuse at games, and now he's virtually undroppable, and rightly so as he's been absolutely superb. Played all across the defence when needed and rarely let us down. And on the rare occasions he scores, it's a screamer ? Says a lot about his character.
  12. Flynn spent pretty much all of his time under Shez on the bench even when we were crying out for creativity, so not sure why he'd suddenly be above Gardner and Banks as the main creative player in the centre of the park, which is clearly where they'll play? Surely he would've been given a go there ahead of Banks last year if he sees him as that type of player? Flynn could well have a big role this year but this will more than likely be on the left if past appearances and even this pre season is anything to go by, plus that's apparently where he wants to play. The first thing Shez identified us lacking was creativity in midfield and I think he feels he's addressed that at least to some extent by signing Gardner, plus with our well known budgetary constraints, it'd be a bit of a waste to put someone on a 2 year deal and then see them as back up straight away? I'm pretty sure he seems him as an upgrade of what we've already got, and I'm happy to trust him on this one. I think we've all seen enough football to realise certain players flourish under management and style they possibly haven't played in before despite underwhelming elsewhere. An additional attacking player has been referenced, and if it's someone in the same mould that can add more competition for that play making spot, then great, but for all we know that could be after a pacey flying winger for the left, as he may see Tope as more of a striker despite being able to do a job on the wing. He certainly seemed to have a good predatory knack for his 2 goals last year. Time will tell I guess.
  13. I've got a soft spot for Neil Thompson who Colin signed on loan in 97/98 when Carl Serrant, he of England B international fame, got injured. Not because he was particularly any good, but a year later he oversaw a run as York manager which, combined with a copule of last gasp wins by Latics, saw them relegated at our expense.
  14. Can't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure we were only a few short of 2k for the official figures at Dale.
  15. It really hit home how synonymous he was with our club when the recent interviews went up & instinctively I immediately expected to hear Gordy's voice My only dealing with him was writing to the club as a budding 15 year old journalist to see if I could interview our manager & my hero Stitch as part of a workplace initiative with school, and he helped make my dream come true. I even got to meet my favourite player at the time, a certain John Sheridan. Was completely star struck on both counts!! I still cherish the photos of Stich with his arm round my lanky streak 15 year old self to this day, and still have the interview on tape!! Just the slightest gesture & an hour out of their day made me feel ten feet tall. A real window into what a brilliant, friendly club we support & how Gordy was a massive part of that. I hope today was a real celebration of his life, RIP Gordy, truly one of a kind.
  16. Been wondering myself if Flynn will either be released/sold or have a clean slate perhaps starting on the left side of midfield, or maybe at the top of the diamond. Remember thinking in Jan when Shez returned that he would be his type of player, but he just seemed to be completely out of the picture once we found our solid, hard to beat formula. If he can get a tune out of him, it's like a brand new signing. Remember watching him in his first game v Wigan and thinking we had a player on our hands, looked intelligent & skillful enough to play that role cutting in from the left side, then just saw him completely regress, was never near enough to goal to do any damage and didn't ever seem to want the ball despite being the only 'creative' player in the side. Was massively disappointing given the hype around him signing, but I'd certainly get behind him if he's given another chance.
  17. Yep, tongue was firmly in cheek. It's almost as if all managers make hit and miss signings...
  18. Aye, the same chancer who brought in Jon Paul Kissock, Willy Gros and Terry Dunfield ?
  19. I didn't see him, so I'll go with your better judgement. As you've pointed out, 18 is very young for a goalkeeper only used to U21 football, but From Liverpool's point of view he's getting nowhere near their first team, so even if he came primarily as back up to push our eventual number 1, at least he's getting experience of being in match day squads, working hands on with a good coach like Carlo Nash etc so I don't think it should be a deal breaker that he should be first choice, not at that level with his relative experience. Similar agreements have happened when in the past we've loaned the likes of Adam Ledgzins (sic), Kieran Westwood, and if I remember correctly, Sam Johnstone may have been with us for a short while, and it didn't do their careers much harm.
  20. Whichever one we get away must be nailed on for our lowest ever supporter turnout at a competitive game. Absolutely woeful competition.
  21. With respect though, couldn't you say the same for pretty much everyone in the game? For me personally, despite the apparent unsavoury antics of when he returned with Barnsley, I feel like he's got enough credit in the bank given his connections with the club, 2 spells as player, now potentially his 3rd as assistant. We've made him redundant in the past when we've seen fit, and expected that to just be seen as 'part and parcel' of the game. Who knows, perhaps he and Shez received offers when we were flying at points in 06/07 & 08/09, but stayed put? Fully respect your view point, but there's more to stuff than meets the eye sometimes - be interesting to see if he mentions it when he returns. Totally agree he's pretty lucky though, especially given the very public controversies he's been involved in recently. Hopefully he'll repay that trust we've placed n him once again.
  22. Cheers for that. Given that I was letting Johnson exactly know what I thought of him leaving, albeit from the Chaddy, and factoring in that I've seen our own fans come to blows and tell each other go f**k themselves on several occasions down the years, I'm not gonna take the pious route on this one and file it under 'heat of the moment' and 'giving as good as he got', although can understand why some fans would feel a bit miffed given his connections with the club. From a football point of view, murky world of brown paper bags under the table firmly aside, it's a very sound appointment - not only is he experienced & a good fit with Shez, I genuinely believe he effectively saved Johnson's career when he came in 2013/14 and we coincidentally looked like a side which knew how to set up not to get beat after being weak as pish for most of the season previously. To surmise, despite the little careerist weasel loving the smell of his own farts, I severely doubt he would have got his dream move to darkest Yorkshire if it wasn't for Tommy (sorry, still clearly not over that one it seems!! ) Hopefully the deals for him, Harbin & Wellens will be just a matter of dotting the I's and crossing the T's.
  23. What did he actually do? I was in Chaddy that day so although I've heard it referred to several times on here, I genuinely don't know what he did that was so bad?
