Do you think we can go up this season though?

We’re 20/1 at the bookies as things stand. I think that’s about right.

Our recent history in recruitment has been hit and miss, with more miss. It would be have to be much much better to make a difference. There’s no guarantee.

We’re in the middle of the season with decent players under contract, we’d have to pay through the nose to get them. We can’t do that.

Realistically, we’re aiming for 6th/7th, which means an away QF and away SF & 2nd or 3rd (who are way in front of us at the mo) at Wembley.

I’m not saying we can’t, I’m saying it looks unlikely as we approach the halfway point.

I agree, feels like the pod has swung the other way since the Mellon appointment and become possibly a little more negative in its view. The Eastleigh game for me was a slight evolution on the Altrincham game before it in the sense that while there was still a lot of predictable, slow backwards and sideways passing (particularly in the first half), we created a lot more and really should have run out comfortable winners.

We are hamstrung at the moment by the complete lack of pace and guile in attacking areas coupled with having no one in midfield willing or able to carry the ball forward. Kitching and Lundstram are the only two remotely capable of that. It will require personnel changes for us to become more dynamic. Until that point, incremental improvements are about as good as it’s going to get and if we play like we did second half for 90 mins, I think we win most games still at this level.

Sounds to me like what you're doing is calling for patience. That's all we've ever really done I think. It'll come good in the end. It's just gonna take longer than any of us really want / hoped it would do. It was sh1t under DU, mainly sh1t under Thommo/Redders and still pretty sh1t under Mellon, which has everything to do with recruitment IMO. None of them can get a consistent tune out of this lot.

Apologies, last year I completely forgot. This year I’ve not been well. I’ll see how I’m fixed this coming season to sort a return of the cup competition. I wasn’t sure anyone was bothered to be honest.

I’m sorry to hear that mate. Please don’t feel any pressure to do it. I was hoping Alex might’ve found a less onerous way of doing it. Hope you’re on the mend.

You wanna take over from Stevie in running it?

Nope. I had to give up the socials cos this podcast malarkey keeps me busy. I was hoping you could find an automated way of doing it? Or if not, maybe someone else (another participant who could find the time) could take on the role of cup organiser/socials manager?

What if he has no intention of investing large sums of money in infrastructure improvement projects; Chaddy End, Main Stand, RRE, Training facilities.... has no interest in buying the assets of Brassbank Ltd & OEC Ltd.... will fire TP and disband the youth set up, because his primary motivation is to use Latics as a vehicle for pumping in loads of ‘French lads’ that he hopes to move on for modest profit or neutral cost to OAFC2004Ltd, but his agent friends earn handsomely out of in placing them elsewhere. What if this business plan - that doesn’t care for Latics one bit - means the sum total of our ambition is merely to stay in the football league? Would you have liked to have heard a dickie bird out of him in this sceanrio, or are you happy to wait because he’s shy?

    You get me?

Just on to the court case bit. If he wins it which suggests that the stand cannot be passed onto another party without legal consent so we then could own the North Stand but then Sinon Blitz is then owed that £3.5million which if called in straight away and bear in mind he probably would and we can't pay it we go under. So Abdallah loses either way. Is that correct?

That’s pretty much as I see it, yep….. which is why the only way out of this seems to be a settlement before it gets to court.

    Hi Andy,

    Thanks for that mate.

Let’s assume then the club paid for the feasibility/architects etc. Which would also make sense about why Blitz wasn’t involved at the start of the build.

That means the club effectively put in 1.9 million

    Blitz the rest.

So to my mind the club can claim they’re owed 1.9 million? Unless- Corney wrote that off somewhere along the way.

Well, Corney wrote it all off at some point, which is what the club are claiming he couldn’t do - without permission from the council - but if the the £1.1m was the club’s money (effectively) and the £700k was the council’s (a grant) surely the council only have a right to say how their money should be spent / that it cannot be disposed of without their permission?

  9. 8 minutes ago, League one forever said:

    Yes, that’s correct.

    But here’s the bit I don’t get.

On a previous podcast- it was said that Blitz wasn’t involved at the start of the build.

Yet the club was drawing down on that 1.9 from the council to start the north stand. . .

1.2 million of that was Blitz’s money owed to him from failsworth, so how can Blitz not be involved at the start when a large chunk of his reimbursement money went to starting the stand.

The other think that stood out, was him saying the club had a case.

    How??

    5 million came from Blitz.

    700k from the grant.

If Corney waived the grant money against club debts- then the club haven’t a got a leg to stand on now.

See post above from @BPAS Chris…..

The problem I have is with Blitz and they are in my eyes doing his dirty work which isn't the immediate problem I know but it is creating a situation where nobody will come out of it with any credit, agree with regards to Barry though he needs to go immediately as his presence just pours petrol on the flames, I personally favour someone coming in and taking over the whole lot, highly unlikely I know.

I think that Characterisation is unfair/wrong. The FLG/OEC are not doing Blitz’s dirty work…. They have been/are trying to take Blitz out of the equation. They want what’s best for OAFC, they are fans too.

I agree with this, is there a reason the OEC and those who run it are supported by the protest groups then?, as you say all sides are culpable and for the good of the football club shouldn't the boycotters be interested in starving all those involved with our demise of their monies? I still can't understand how one side is embraced yet the other is jettisoned, no doubt about it Abdallah has contributed to his own downfall but those on the other side come out with little credit and as I predicted much of it comes down to ego.

Hi Simon, I’m afraid I don’t see how you apportion blame on the FLG/OEC chaps for the situation the club is in. They do not own the land, they do not own the club. Either you have a personal dislike for them (which you’re entitled to have - and I don’t share it) or you are missing the point. We had them on recently and we put every question to them. Assuming they answered honestly (I have no reason to believe otherwise) they are trying to be part of the solution, they are not part of the problem. Assuming Shahed answered honestly (I have no reason to believe otherwise) it is Abdallah, Mohamed & Barry, especially Barry, who are behaving pathetically over access to the North Stand and OEC facilities. I have no sympathy for that.

Any reflections from you and Matt? Does it change anything? Made you think differently about the whole situation with the club?

Hi, thanks for your kind words & you’re welcome.

In answer to your question(s),  No, it doesn’t change my perspective any. I still think Abdallah is hopelessly out of his depth, the £2.5m+ he’s spent has largely been wasted on his own terrible decisions (he’s relegated us twice), his due diligence woefully lacking, the continued employment of his brother who’s so inept and out of his depth, and their reckless & unfathomable association with Barry Owen, a man with who I have so little respect for, all adds up to them being the primary reason why they have spectacularly failed. Simon Blitz is a big problem too. They all need to go. We need to raise money. We need to secure Boundary Park. Only then will we be able to think about better times again.
