  1. I was on it as Diego's sideburns but changed my user name on here because this site did not allow use of the apostrophe.
  2. The Oldham Athletic Fan Page on Facebook has a picture of a flyer inviting residents and neighbours who live close to visit the OEC to see the Little Wembley pitch renovation proposal on Thursday 24 August from 4pm to 8pm.
  3. Back in the late 50s I used to play for Townfield Youth Club with some lads who didn't like to conform with the norm. We chose an all black kit so the ref would have to wear some other colour. Happy days!
  4. Frank has already been made a Freeman of Oldham and, unlike Winston Churchill, he turned up to receive the award,
  5. Mrs S and I haven't be able to get to BP to use our pensioners' STs this season but we've renewed to support Frank & family. The two seasons STs added together only come to £6.85 a match.
  6. The myth that JW Lees Brewery saved the Club from extinction. Steve Ragg blew the myth wide open in WSC back in 1998: https://www.wsc.co.uk/book-reviews/brewers-droop/ I'm still boycotting the Brewery's pubs and I cringe at the OASF's new range of shirts. I have the classic 1985-87 shirt, but without the barrel and the Lees name.
  7. Our very young daughter was an avid viewer of the George Best coaching programme on children's teatime TV. Luckily she never became a ManU fan!
  8. Gallery Oldham is to hold an exhibition in memory of the life of Sir Walter Winterbottom from 15 November until 17th December. https://www.theoldhamtimes.co.uk/news/23105946.world-cup-oldhams-father-england-football-celebrated/ From 12:30pm on 15 November there will be an hour-long talk by Graham Morse, author of 'Sir Walter Winterbottom: The Father of Modern English Football'. Tickets via Eventbrite.
  9. Sad to report the death of former keeper Eamonn Darcy aged 89. I remember watching him in my childhood 1954-56. He was signed for a fee of £150 and went from Latics to Shamrock Rovers and saved a penalty for the League of Ireland in a victory against the English League XI in 1963. He also managed the Republic of Ireland women's team in the 1980s. He made nine appearances in European club competitions, including home and away against Man U in the days when the European Cup was only for the champions of respective countries. RIP Eamonn.
  10. The online Fan Shop shows the range of kits but commits the sin of calling the Club THE Latics. https://www.oafcstore.com/ Good to see this is corrected on the Club site.
  11. Cheers Phil - I'm very well now. just waiting for the DVLA to say I can drive! Our Two Together Railcard will come in handy.
  12. NOTE: The 'Where to drink' section of the first post has been amended to give an alternative to the poplar Saddlers' Club, which is no longer available.
  13. When Tony ran the London Marathon the day after Latics won at Millwall, he wore his Latics shirt and got pelters south of the river.
  14. When Latics played at Ancona in the Anglo-Italian Cup, there were 33 Latics supporters in a crowd of 311 (including about 150 off HMS Glasgow). All but a few of the home fans boycotted the game over some dispute with their club. It's the lowest ever recorded for a competitive game involving Latics.
