  1. Which book might that be then, and who wrote it? If you are going to make silly remarks about Mellon, it would help if you got your spelling right.
  2. Four of that starting XI came through the youth system and Danny Hall, who came on as sub, was a Centre of Excellence find.
  3. That may be true, but on the other hand if he doesn’t get a chance how will we ever know? If you’re good enough, you’re old enough, at any level. Plenty of teenagers have impressed in the PL and other top leagues around Europe. I’m not for a minute claiming Atherton is their equal, but the point stands.
  4. Agreed. Reid was an idiot to post the Xmas video, and a complete idiot if he’d been previously warned. MM is an experienced manager with a good track record. Why people think he should lower his disciplinary standards for Reid is totally beyond me.
  5. Block me if you like BP, but you really have plumbed the depths there. What an utterly irrational, nonsensical actually, comparison. Your experience as a scout and years in the game are being let down by wholesale negativity, cynicism and maybe even bitterness. Please step back, calm down and reflect on your post.
  6. Would he not need belief and a positive attitude to get them?
  7. It’s the intercity and stopping trains main line into Paddington, so yes always busy. Someone mentioned that this is the oldest continuously used ground in the country - the stand presumably isn’t, but hopefully it’ll be ok!
  8. Bromley losing, Barnet drawing at the moment. Three points for us might be significant today
  9. Admiration for him knows no bounds, what an achievement. Love the end of his interview where he says, I haven’t finished talking yet Who was it who posted don’t give him the microphone before Kidderminster, no chance he won’t have one!!
  10. I’m not sure about getting a home draw given our form there this season but I take your point and yes we do seem to play better generally against teams towards the top. We’re all desperate to get out of what is a tough and unpredictable league. 46 games and only 1 automatic promotion place is as tough as it gets. Ideally we all want entertaining football as well as the wins, but for the foreseeable future I’m with those who prioritise results over playing style. I’m confident that MM will get us promoted, if not this season, stuck at the starting gate as we were under Unsworth, then next.
  11. I don’t necessarily disagree with you. But is that a genuinely impartial view, or one seen through Latics-tinted glasses or (heaven forbid) an “entitled” view? That’s why I was curious to hear from Basil, who doesn’t pull his punches, doesn’t expect us to walk every match against “pub teams” or “leisure centres” () and usually has some fairly shrewd comments to make. This point re part time teams also amuses me. How many teams in the NL are part time? Does that make them automatically poor(er) teams who we should be beating? They play the same number of matches as us and just maybe have some good players to call on?
  12. Hope (no, not the footballer). Seriously though, as you don’t seem to have posted on here lately (apologies if I missed any of your posts) I just wondered where you think we are from your more neutral/objective point of view. Between @Lee Sinnott , who seems convinced we are in a pub league and should therefore be winning 6-0 every week (strangely his predictions rarely come good) and @deyres42(who makes Waldorf and Statler look like rays of sunshine) it can be a struggle to get a cold, rational analysis of how well the team is doing and whether we should be doing better. Just curious to get your viewpoint but don’t feel you have to!
  13. Not really, Bounce. Your points rarely have much relevance to be honest. Not sure they are “points” at all to be honest.
  14. A classic. I can’t imagine. Maybe we should just all play friendlies with each other Never was the advice “when in a hole, stop digging” more appropriate.
  15. I think we need the Sage of Blackpool back to provide some arm’s length objectivity. The problem for us as Latics fans is we can’t help but be subjective. @basilrobbie, where are you?
  16. Yep, I was there too and I completely agree, it was a dreadful match. The only highlights were the thunder and lightning show, and seeing Frank!
  17. Is it officially confirmed that Norwood is out until April? If so, he’ll be back raring to go at the business end of the season, and meanwhile we’re not short of strikers as others have pointed out.
  18. Agreed. I despise Citeh for many reasons, but I can’t get worked up about this - and anyway it is a trial.
  19. You were doing so well until that final sentence!
