SavageTheBeast
Korey Smith wont get the same money as Dale will get for Hogan-who was offered to us pre-season-as Dale are better at doing business than we are, they turned down £350K in January for him from Peterbro who were told to increase it significantly and they doubled their offer. The same Scott hogan whos fallen out with the manager and will be sold on the cheap now
yarddog73
The same Scott hogan whos fallen out with the manager and will be sold on the cheap now Yes thats the one who wants his move pushed through, who would be interested in a player with so little loyalty ! Is this true about Rochdale being better at business than us or a myth? Genuine question. One of my bosses is a Dale fan and he is forever bemoaning their transfer policy as everything is stacked on future payments e.g. sell on %, promotions etc. He gets the feeling Rochdale sell on the cheap in terms of upfront fee with lots of speculative instalments which bump the apparent fee they receive. They do seem to be good at talent spotting though
yarddog73
As we are looking around the non leagues now a player who I liked from his droylsden days is Sean Newton now at Lincoln he has had a good season for them by all accounts is 25 and is from the north west think he is more likely to be the type of player we might have to work with plays mainly at left back but can get forward as a wing back, good left peg as well. Newton is a real powerhouse in the Stuart Pearce mould, also one of the hardest strikers of a ball I've seen. He has been watched by the Latics, but I understand the fee asked for at the time was a stumbling block. I would not be surprised if he finished up at Chesterfield. ChaddySmoker
Am I the only one who isn't bothered if we sell Smith? I'd rather keep Wesolowski and have a more attacking partner for him. Unfortunately you are not the only 1!

I do think though that we seriously need to look at 2 attacking fullbacks for next year, on the cheap!

oafc1012
speaking of Chesterfield....... from THAT ever reliable rumours site. "Oldham look set to try and tempt Dan Gardner away from Chesterfield with an offer that would see cash and the highly rated Kirk Millar head in the opposite direction." Make of that what you will ............

oafc1012
I thought so too. Although not as amusing as the one that claimed to be sat among scouts at BP on a date that we never actually had a game. Scouts were said to be watching Wilson and another iirc

yarddog73
Newton would be ideal 6ft plus as well would add more height to the team, wasnt aware they had taken a look and not sure of his contract situation but would suspect he would jump at the chance of league football and wouldnt be on a fortune. 4froale
if a decent enough offer came in id sell smith, he started off well but seems to have a lot of similar traits as a certain captain we had last year who in the end we did better without, don't get me wrong hes a good player but I think we could find a replacement who is as good and probably who is cheaper, plus he will walk for nothing next summer anyway. The lad in at Fulham's youth team Solomon Sambou is very similar, I'd try for him and the centre back Cameron Burgess. http://www.fulhamfc.com/the-teams/u18s/player-profiles/solomon-sambou http://www.fulhamfc.com/the-teams/u18s/player-profiles/cameron-burgess Edited April 29, 2014 by BP1960
GravityGrave
I can't believe how little some people rate smith and to compare him to furman !!?? He's twice the player . If he goes he'll be another who'll prove to be an excellent performer in the championship . There have been games particularly at home this season where we've looked for korey to do everything . He's just played through the pain barrier in the eight game run . His equaliser against orient was a catalyst and his assist for philli versus Crawley , vital . When Lj talks about the 4-1-4-1 it strikes me that we will start next season with this formation still in place . In this weeks press he said he's happy with how solid we've looked but knows we need to be more fluid going forward. So for the 1 sat in front of the back four does any one really believe we could get someone better than smith for that role ? Confident to get the ball off the back four , keeps possession and is a leader/organiser . Also selling him means replacing him . Another new face/personality to settle in . NewBlue
Selling players like Smith shows no ambition. We want players that have been promoted from this league and he fills that category. Not to mention he's our captain and probably our player with most ability - he'd get into more teams in this league than anyone in our squad. He's not irreplaceable, but the fact teams would be willing to pay good money for him shows that finding a player of equal or better standard would either come at a cost or require a very good piece of scouting; give me guaranteed ability over unknown or untested punts. And I'd rather have continuity rolling onto next season after we have appeared to solve the problem of the centre midfield partnership. When the money wouldn't be reinvested into the squad, why would you sell an integral player and your most valuable asset? yarddog73
Did you know he's a decent goalkeeper too. Think he played in goal as a kid and Lincoln sometimes dont name a substitute keeper as he is deemed suitable as back up not sure he could do that job for us though
ShakerT
After the run we have been on, keeping a settled side, IMO we have to keep the current starting 11 for next season as a minimum.
palmer1
If Richards leaves City for a decent price then we should try and keep Smith. If not then we have to sell, its not about ambition its business and we are ,like it or not a selling club. For those who think Wes will be as good next season (if he stays) without Smith alongside. I'm afraid you may be very disappointed. Edited April 29, 2014 by palmer1

Equally it could be argued Smith wont be the player without Wes besides him, both are good players who do a job for the team typical numpties trying to run down our player of the season could only happen at oldham. Just for your info Wes is running away with POS in second is Harkins whose been here a few months.
