Agreed but someone who plays is more culpable than someone who doesn't. Isn't that how it works ?

Apparently not. Individual performances can't be considered either, especially if they happened in the first half of the season.

Played at Wembley in the final of a major trophy, scored a legendary(!) six goals in one game and helped set the foundations for us to win promotion to the top flight. Possibly not worthy of having a stand named after him, but a legend nonetheless.. His 26 goals were also largely scored in a division higher than Hughes’. rudemedic
Peter Clarke's role in keeping us in the division didn't end in January. Bury lost 0-2 to Rochdale in April, and Clarke played all 90 minutes. If Bury keep a clean sheet logic says we stay up. It's one of the recognised issues with the loan system. Players playing for another club can help their parent club achieve something. We went down last season not just because we only got 50 points, a tally that is often good enough to stay up, but also because there were 20 clubs who got more points. Do we stay up if we keep Clarke, quite possibly. Do we stay up if Gerrard goes on loan, instead of Clarke, quite possibly. Do we stay up if Gerrard doesn't miss 7 of the last 11, quite possibly. Our problem last season were the games where we played both Clarke and Gerrard or neither. This is why if we get someone new in later in the season my first priority would be another experienced CB as Clarke will miss more games.
