Greatest Moment in 20 years

Recommended Posts

Curious. What's your best Oldham 'moment' in the last 20 years?

Had some good un's. Leeds. Liverpool. Everton. Obvious but don't even make the cut.

The less obvious ones, Molangos winner against Swansea. Hughesy's first at Bournemouth. The 2-0 at Forest. Davies' late winner at Tranmere. The 3-0 massacre at Huddersfield. The double Millwall, Hughesy's hat trick and Taylor's 2500 yard header to win 3-2.

One that still hurts. That Winter day we won the league at Swansea in February 2007. Still pains me how we didn't go to that year.

Anyway. It came down to three choices. Forest, Scunthorpe or Chesterfield.

Forest was amazing. Those 8 'Baxter' minutes were good but it came 3rd.

I wanted to put Chesterfield first, as that day, the atmosphere is something that I'll never forget. That day we carried the club, but it was the day and the half. I still hate putting it second but as a moment it has to be.

The winner. Gary Mac at Scunthorpe. I know a lot of people love this, but I always took it for granted. I still do. But as a 'moment' in the last 20 years. I can't see anything beating this. Macca at Everton, Simmo at Liverpool. Nah.

All the shit that went on. 95th minute. 2500 of us. I hate having this as the winner but after deliberation I couldn't defer from it.

So the question is, what's your greatest Oldham 'moment' in the last 20 years, interesting to see the range of views. Bear in mind though, the question is 'moment' rather than the day or game.

Despite treading shit in this league for so long there's been some fantastic moments

At a push I'd say Smith's equaliser v Everton that is up there with my best moments supporting Latics. There's been other 'great moments' too over the last 20 years..

My personal favourites:-

Dux putting us 2-0 up at City moments after Kelly's penalty save - March '99

Allott's rocket v Bury Sept '99

Dux's winner at Wigan - Jan '00

'What a waste of Petrol' Reading Sept '00

Carlo's winner at West Ham Nov '02

Andrews' equaliser at Plymouth Nov '02

Baudet's winner at Tranmere Jan '03

Hall's late pen at Mansfield March '03

Eyresey at Stokport Feb '03

Starting the season - August 2003

She's pen at Hillsborough August 2003

JJ's clincher at Swindon April '04

Scott Vernon's winner v City Jan '05

Macca at Scunny Jan '07

Porter last minute v Tranmere Feb '07

Macca scoring at Everton 'Jan '08

Penney getting sacked - May '10

Kuqi's immediate impact vs Hudds Sept '11

Wabara putting us 3-1 up v Liverpool - Jan '13

Erwin's winner v Noblot April '17 (meant so much personally on so many levels)

Menig's winner v Blackburn Oct '17

Agreed.  I have to add Kuqi's penalty in front of us at Bramall Lane.  2 down and dead and buried at half time, I almost went to the pub.  2-3.

I'll admit. That's one I missed. 2 down at Sheff Utd, to get a 95th minute penalty to win it, must have been good. Same as the other year, I think we got a 95th minute Smith equaliser? Weren't there for that either.

Speaking on the subject. Another one that's undervalued, but isn't a top Latics moment is the 2-2 at Brentford in our play off year.

Ready to walk out, but in the 9666666th minute, we got a penalty. I doubted Clarke and still do, but he tooked it away. 2 down after 80 and we got a point.

Memories. ?

Gary mac at Everton

Liverpool win

Simpsons goal at anfield

Kuqi volley at rochdale

Simpson vs Liverpool, absolute mayhem bounce. Was there

Gary mc at Everton. Was there

Our win vs Liverpool at home. Was at a pub in springhead, still good scenes

Always remember tipton scoring in the last min to make it 3-2 at home when i was young, cant remember who against. Prob when i caught the latics bug
