I know they rated the winner a 10, but also rated 8 other horses as a 10 as well. They then rated 11 horses as 9 out of 10 (which brings in the third Bless the Wings). So out of 44 horses (including the reserves) they rated 19 as a 9 or a 10. If you backed all those 19, even though you got the 1st, 3rd & 5th, you'd be showing a loss. Perhaps, in some circumstances you would be, but some of the 19/44 horses they rated 9 or 10 didn't run, so refunded as a minimum. In many years you can make money on the National by putting £1 e/w on all 40 horses (not this year, but last year you would have done).
