Al's radio interview 17/11/18

Recommended Posts

I can’t really fault him in that interview.  He accepts responsibility for his mistakes...he also clearly has a big problem though with Wellens for last year.  Sounds like Wellens was very demanding. Very honest I thought.

Give the fella time, try not criticising every thing that happens or he does/doesn’t do and let’s see what happens.  Show him and the club a bit of respect.

The thing that drives me to ‘defend’ him the most is the total lack of respect from some for a man that has, at great personal expense, tried to help us. He isn’t trying to piss us off, he isn’t thinking I’ll spend loads of cash to purposely fail and annoy fans.

He’s trying. He’s failing sometimes yes, but he will learn.... or he won’t. Let’s see.

Its not not like we have options.

I like the guy from what we have seen so far. People are very quick to criticise without knowing the full facts, time will tell. He's given more statements in the last 6 months than corney did in the previous 5 years. Also you can tell he's at least thinking about the fans with the Royle, Frizzell, boundary park namings. IMO it's more likely that in 7 years time we'll be in the championship with Abdallah as opposed to the corney era I never felt we were anywhere near progressing and there was never any chance of doing so. This guy may make rash decisions from time to time but I think he'll have more ambition to take us up through the leagues than Corney had.

When you consider we had a budget of 2.8 million and he signed six of his OWN players all Ritchie could do was moan he couldn't get Matt Mills in . . I’d say demanding was an understatement.

He can’t work to a budget. When it goes wrong his answer is to go to championship for players the club can’t afford. They moan we have no ambition, then come out with- we need more quality- which is another way of saying I can’t improve players.

Thanks for the memories. .

2.8 million 😂😂😂

I think its more...he has been bank rolling us before he took over for a good few months, brought some players in he was asked for, bought the club, bought out Corney's shares, paid off/or took on the secured loans (Necarcu being one). Paid a goodwill deposit with the EFL, paid the loan clubs fee/ (something the previous owner was not very good at..hence a few embargos for them and our reputation shot to pieces)......I think its closer to  £3.5 million now

I think the posters referring to our playing budget being £2.8m per annum (as opposed to his outlay)

AL implied he doubled the wage budget from Corney’s regime

Clarke, Green, Banks, Flynn, Bryan, Byrne, Doyle didn't all leave at start of January then? 😂😂

This again.

We got 11 points in the 5 games after the end of Jan.

helloooo? In there anyone (anything) in there?

Wellens is a fraud who specialises in blame culture. Never a leader.

I know, imagine how many we could have got in January if we'd been able to sign players...

And all were replaced and some. Hardly saving or shedding the wage bill is it. In fact it was added to. Your talking nonsense.

I accept all of the squad weren’t Wellens signings. But it’s completley baseless to argue AL didn’t substantially invest. Just look at the squad size.

Is there any chance you could give a considered and constructive response for once.  Gives us your resume of the interview and your view and opinion of his direction.

....or just carry on chucking out puerile insults and cheap shots like a child.

Up to you.

Edit.  Scrub that, just seen you response about January... you’re an idiot.

Indeed. And look at the value we got out of Kyeremeh, Menig, Omrani, Placide...

£2.8m per annum equates to just under £54k per week or average £2.2k per player based on squad of 24.  Realistically a squad is nearer 30 so reduce that to £1.8k per week.

Some of our players will be on less that £1.8k but if you consider Maouche on £4k and the likes of Clarke, Hunt, Baxter and Dummigan on similar then that’s 5 who have taken the wage of 10, thus reducing down squad to 25.

This is why Gerrard, Byrne etc were let go and we couldn’t retain Doyle, Bryan etc.

I’d say our budget from Jan 2018 to May 2018 was significantly more than £54k per week and therefore unsustainable when we were relegated.  We’ve had to reduce down to £54k for this season to be sustainable and most likely remain in our cap.  It wouldn’t surprise me if ongoing payments to Gerrard and Byrne remain in the £54k as we’ve most likely paid them off but drawing from the budget.

AL has said money is available in January - but not clarified if that’s subject to players leaving.  Time will tell.

A lot of the things can't really be quantified until we see the accounts I'd say.

What he says and what is actually happening don't seem to stack up.
