Dennis Stott RIP

I learned sadly on Saturday of the death of Dennis, a longtime and loyal Latics supporter since the 60s.

A Shaw man, Dennis was a talented cricketer as well as playing football locally. It was doubly poignant that his death occurred in Mexico whilst there for his son’s wedding.

RIP. Another Latic gone but not forgotten.

Sad news indeed.

 

I worked with Dennis at Platt's and can well remember the trip back from Bournemouth on the "League Liner" just drinking and having a game of cards with Paul Edwards who was a mate of his. We'd lost one nil and Paul had scored an  own goal if my memory serves me.

A decent lad and only in his late sixties I'd guess.

 

RIP Dennis and commiserations to Family and close friends.

Yes great bloke and will be sadly missed. I remember him telling me that he faced Garfield Sobers who was the overseas pro whilst playing for Crompton. He hit two 4’s from his first two balls, only for his middle stump to be sent cartwheeling with the 3rd ball.

I knew Dennis through my dad. met up with him for a match day pint a few times over the years. A thoroughly lovely man with a stellar sense of humour. Rest well, Dennis. Send us a bit of luck down, mate.

Met Denis for the first time at the Grimsby away match and got on really well, it was a great shock to hear of his loss so soon after.
