Sporting Director

Recommended Posts

The times they have changed.  If managers/coaches are just ephemeral things then a sporting director makes sense however I would be more comfortable if I thought the sporting director had to perform well to keep his job.

Experience is a wonderful thing but we can only get an experienced coach if he has already failed elsewhere.

Age does not qualify you to be a coach it is your experience and character - if Wild has it now is his time.

This will be an interesting transfer window as it becomes increasingly clear that we are heading for a no deal WTO based relationship with the EU.  All the misinformation you hear is purely and simply the remoaners trying to undo the referendum result.  The deal foisted upon the Maybot is worse than both staying in or a WTO based relationship.  Staying in would no doubt suit our sporting director, so what will he do as the no deal WTO approaches at the end of January.  Will he sign as many players as he can to give them some residency pre independence day?  Will he in the period from end of January bring in a flood of unattached overseas players to get round the post independence day rules on immigration as we are hardly short of football players and the world wide rules will no doubt then apply to all the 27 remaining EU countries?  He has a lot to think about.

Just stick them on a speedboat from Calais. Going rate is about three grand I believe.   If it’s good enough for some middle class folk from Iran then it’s good enough for these lads.  Claim asylum as ‘refugees’... bingo.   😛

If we're going to be turning over 'managers' on a regular basis then I'd rather they had nothing to do with identifying players. Just means you have squad made up of leftovers from a previous regime.

That only works if the nepotism & most secure sporting director job in the country is any fkin good at identifying them himself.... or we’re in a lot of trouble.

A lot of the reason for the model was to take the bung/old boys club aspect out of player buying. We've made a few signings over the decades that wouldn't passed a committee (by owners as well as managers).

PS no Brexit outcome will make a difference for EU registered players for a year or two

Does the vote not take place before the end of January so there may be a little more clarity by then?

MP's will not allow a no deal Brexit.

MP's can't stop it. It's written in law that we leave March 29th.

May could delay it by asking for Article 50 to be extended, which the EU have said they will only agree to if we have another referendum. If leaving under WTO stops UK clubs bringing in foreign players who are not internationals then it may help the England team because English players will get a chance. Even Prem. clubs youth set ups are full of foreign players these days. Bring it on.

AL's brother will have to liaise with the manager to help him find players who fit into the system and fit into the dressing room without causing problems.

My comment was about a No Deal Brexit. Yes it is written into law.

There are still several ways in which Brexit can be avoided, too many permutations to list here and it is a Footie forum not a political forum. Next week the bunfight continues in Parliament.

Interesting that Supporter Liaison Officer is gone, it's a requirement of the league...

The staff list states that the SLO is TBA which could be interpreted as a role waiting to be filled. Not sure how long it's been unoccupied, or how long the EFL allow clubs to have the role vacant - if at all.

I wonder if Mark has given it up since he became Chairman of the Trust.

I thought Diane Mellor held that role - so went on the trust website to check, but there is no listing of trust directors at all on there.  I did eventually find some news on  the subject but in one, year old, three paragraph article it has Simon Brooke resigning his position and taking over as Chair.  Just searching for 'Mark' yielded no relevant reusults.

Diane holds the role of Trust rep on the board of the club (yeah, yeah. I know ). There is a separate Chair of the Trust.
